Tailgating In The Park

It was of great interest when the TP printed an article saying the Saints and Mayor Nagin are pushing the State on pursuing the creation of a park that would allow for true tailgating outside of the superdome. The state and city own 25 acres between Poydras St. and Broad St. that could be converted into a park that could be used for many purposes in that area of the city. The main focus would be to have a place where Saints fans, Tulane fans, Sugar Bowl fans, and Super Bowl fans could gather before and after games to tailgate, including actually cooking outdoors. This is a dimension that the superdome has lacked since 1975 upon opening and if created, would give fans a place to gather in true tradition as football is done all over the United States Of America. The most interesting part of the article was that since the land is already owned, this project could be done in first class fashion for as little as ten million dollars and done on a shoe string budget of three million dollars for a bare bones facility. Also, another 25 acres of adjacent property owned by individuals would be available. Ten million bucks for a state of the art 25 acre park seems like a heck of a deal. A blighted area of fenced in concrete turned into a beautiful natural green space. Imagine gathering with friends and fellow fans as you tell stories while sipping on a cold one with the smell of bbq smoke drifting by while you are kicked back in the SHADE. Does this idea make to much sense are what? The cost is less than a first round rookie signing bonus. Maybe if the state can't come up with money Mr. Benson might do so if given the rights to concession outlets placed within the park. Heck, 25 cent port a potties alone would pay for this in a short time by themselves. Pay for air conditioned booths might help. Hot tubs?

Tailgating In The Park

Bumping an old thread here guys but thought this was a GREAT idea at the time and still do. Haven\'t heard another peap about it since then and now with the state crying about the payment due the Saints we probably won\'t ever again.

This would be great for downtown New Orleans and give Saints and Green Wave fans something they don\'t have now, a great pre and post game area to tailgate. This seems like such a small investment to compliment the dome.
