Value in Rd 2
 

When I look at this year's draft class it's clear to me that although it may not be as top heavy as recent drafts it will be alot deeper through the first day. Really solid players will still be on the board when we pick in the second and third rounds. To me what is really unique about this class is that a few positions like CB and WR don't have clear cut #1 but have several players that grade out about the same. At DT you have two guys in the first tier (Dorsey & Ellis) and then the second tier is really crowded. This is a good thing for us because we should have most of that second tier of DTs available to us in the second. There will also be a few really solid CB prospects available as well. That's why I think we should stay put at #10 and go with K. Rivers then come back and take the best DT or CB left in the second.

What position do you think will have the most value left in the second round? Also who are some of the guys you'd like to see us go with? For me the best second round value is gonna be at CB and I'd like to see us get Justin King if he's still on the board.

Wow I couldn't agree with you more I'd take Rivers with the first with the second pick Justin King or Antoine Cason and with the third round I would love to see Matt Forte there although I think he's a second round pick.

I agree 2nd-3rd round is where all the VALUE is at.

I'd like:
1st: OLB Keith Rivers
2nd: DT Dre Moore
3rd: FS Thomas DeCloud

Would be great stuff. Then maybe a cb or wr.. and lastly i'd top it off with 6'4 QB Sam Keller in the 6th or so round..

There are so many possibilities.. How awesome would this be..

Somehow trade up a few and get:
1st: Sedrick Ellis
2nd: Reggie Smith (can play cb or fs!)
3rd: Xavier Adibi. The linebacker led Virginia Tech with 115 tackles and 12 tackles for loss during the 2007.

I guess great minds think alike lsutigerfan because Antoine Cason is also on my second round wish list right behind King and I'm also a huge Matt Forte fan. I think Cason might be more NFL ready at this point but his ceiling isn't as high as King's. Justin King has all the tools but he just wasn't able to put it all together and become the superstar he was supposed to be in college. Penn State is my team and I've watched every game tha King ever played in so I know what this kids got. He came on strong his freshman year and looked like he'd be an all american. He was very solid as a soph but he seemed to lose confidence his junior year. In the Indiana game James Hardy destroyed him and that was hard to watch. With some good NFL coaching I think he'll be a really solid pro. I think King will be one of those late bloomers who is better in the pros than they were in college. There might not be a more gifted CB in this class. The guy is right at 6'0'', 190lbs and has been clocked in the 4.2s so he has what it takes physically to be a number one CB but he needs to get the mental part of the game down.

I really like Antoine Cason because to me he always looked like a natural born cornerback at Arizona. I watched him play a few times over the course of his career and I swear he got a pick every time I saw him! The knock on him is speed but I think he's fast enough to be productive at the next level. The guy is a flat out ball hawk so if he's too slow to play CB then he'll be a great fit at FS. He'll find a place to start in the secondary and I think he'll be really good.

Matt Forte is one of the hardest players to project as far as where he'll be drafted. Initially he was projected to go in the 3rd or 4th round. One of the knocks on him was that he was too slow to be a feature back. Scouts said that he was a HB/FB tweener that wouldn't fit in most offenses. Then he went out and disproved the notion that he was slow by running a 4.52 which is pretty fast when you consider how big he is. He also showed that he has great hands in pass catching drills. Scouts also said that he didn't play up to his size. That is BS and to that I say go watch the LSU game when he ran all over a healthy Tiger defense that was #1 in the nation at the time. This guy ran for 2,127 yds, 23 TDs, and a 5.3 avg last year with no supporting cast at all. Even though it was against Conference USA you still have to be a beast to go for 2,127 despite facing 8 or 9 people in the box every down. My only issue with him is the fact that he runs straight up and exposes himself to some big shots but that can be coached. I think scouts, coaches, and GMs have warmed to Forte due to his insane size/speed ratio but if they would go back and watch him on tape they will see something else he has that can't be measured, heart. Forte makes up for any flaws he might have by running with heart and determination. I think that if we wanted him we would have to take him in the second because he won't be there in the third.

Hey lsutigerfan, what do you think about us nutting up and taking Forte in the second? That would be a bold move but he might be the thunder we need to compliment Reggie's lightning. I know, it would probably be a reach but it could really pay off big time!

Justin King is finally getting some respect. Cason is a solid as solid gets. Forte is the gamble worth taking but I think the bears are going to grab the kid early in two. rice for thirds.

Agreed, Cason is looking real good at 41 (if he lasts)

if we take rivers, id like to see us get johnathon stewart in the 2nd.. he has a first round grade but b/c of the injury to his toe will likely fall into the 2nd round...

I believe for the future we need to take Forte with the second pick. Here is someone that can definately contribute on special teams immediately while working Himself into a spot. If not take one of the defensive tackles that are available. Although I think like Hagan174 He may be gone.

Dear God beauchristopher, that would be a sick first three picks! If we could pull those three guys we would be looking pretty good going into day two of the draft. Hell it wouldn't matter what the rest of draft looked like I'd still be one happy Saints fan! The only bad thing about this dream draft is that it would only happen in our dreams. If we traded up to get Ellis we would have to at least give up that 3rd and even if we kept it I don't think X. Adibi will still be on the board. Do you guys think we'll have a shot at Reggie Smith in the second? I really like him but I didn't think we would have a shot at him.
