Rivers' stats

I realize I'm in the minority here, but I hope we don't select Rivers in the 1st. I feel the addition of Vilma alone will significantly upgrade our LB corp. I would much prefer one of the corners or DTs, whereas corner being the emphasis. Is it just me or is Rivers not that impressive? His stats are definitely not eye popping. I know he was on a D loaded with playmakers, but he just didn't stand out. Ok, I'll admit it, part of it was one play where he was out of position & Mendenhall ran for about 40+ in his spot. Rivers has ALL the tools, but why does he remind me of our last 1st round LB > Mark Fields?

Re: Rivers' stats

Fields? LOL I still love that pick. He had to be the fastest LB I have ever saw. Shame he just did not have a good learning curve. We gave up on him to early. he did make the pro bowl in 2005

Re: Rivers' stats

so tell me again how his stats dont stand out when he was 2nd on his team in tackles with 78.. Ray Maualuga had 79... and playing on a sprained ankle for 4 or 5 games??

in 06-07 season, he led the Trojans in tackles with 85 and Maualuga was 2nd on the team with 78

Re: Rivers' stats

Yeah I'm with pakowitz
As far as I can see based on his stats...
This kid is a stud

Not to mention from what I have seen of him he is always dishing out crushing hits
Maybe you got this kid confused with someone else
And I have to say that from what I have seen…
He is definitely no flop

Big, strong, fast, and plays very physical
All the traits you want at this position

I personally don’t see any drawbacks if we go after him

You’ll have to do better then that if you want me to believe that he is a waist of time

Re: Rivers' stats

Plus Rivers is a high character guy.

In any case, we should get a top DL, LB or CB at #10. We might even get a great CB and a starter at #19.

Re: Rivers' stats

He's not only an outstanding player who played an an elite college football progam he produced as well. Of all the players we will have available to us at 10 (hoping Rivers is still there). Rivers is the safest sure fire way to make the 10th pick actually count and mean something.
