bengals possibly trading down for a WR?

Malcolm Kelly-WR- Player Apr. 7 - 4:08 pm et

ESPN's Todd McShay reports the Bengals have informed Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly that they're interested in him.

McShay speculates that the Bengals are smokescreening and hope to trade down, while John Clayton says the interest is "valid." Kelly will work out for the first time this offseason Wednesday. Following the release of Chris Henry, the Bengals may very well use a pick in the top three rounds on a receiver.

Oklahoma WR Malcolm Kelly ran forty times of 4.75 and 4.68 at his Pro Day on Wednesday.

This may very well knock the underclassman out of first-round consideration, although his knees may not be 100%. By comparison, Dwayne Jarrett ran 4.67 and 4.62 at his Pro Day a year ago and went No. 45 overall. Kelly's vertical leap (32") also was unimpressive. He did reportedly look "very good" in position drills. Teammate Reggie Smith ran 4.65 and 4.61. Non-zone teams may only look at Smith as a safety now.

Malcolm Kelly blames his poor Pro Day on Oklahoma University, saying the school didn't tell him the workout would be on FieldTurf until the last minute.

Kelly said he'd been practicing on Astroturf and running sub-4.5s. On the FieldTurf, he was slow (4.68-4.75). The NFL no longer uses Astroturf, so Kelly's times give a more valuable representation of his straight-line speed.

I watched a lot of OU games and I really believe Kelly is going to be a solid pro... however those are some horrible 40 times. I was very disappointed when I saw that. I highly doubt the Bengals trade out of the top 10 to select a wide receiver... 0 percent actually. There's plenty of value in receivers after in the second and third rounds.

The fact that he's willing to blame his university for the turf he ran on rather than himself for not being that fast on NFL surfaces doesn't speak too well of his character either.

while i don't think it's blazing speed by any means, reminds me of colston's speed, it won't help with his selection either.............
