the roller coaster ride begins with the opener, against seattle.....while before, all we had was fantasy, we now have reality to mix with it.......i do not see us being thrashed by any team.........i do not see us being manhandled by any team...........i do not see us being down by 14 in the fourth quarter and not being able to come back and win it.....although the eagles game disappointed me (i thought they would have shown more) every thing keeps pointing to haslett....this does not puzzle me because i know haslett does not show his hand. jim is getting very good at telling the media what they wanna hear although he does it the hard way......i think he is learning from his mistakes and should be ready for the season.........all we really need is the "LUCK"....... this is what i believe.........and i stand by it...........now, answer me this..........who among you thought we would beat tampa twice last yr along with other playoff contenders and not make the playoffs? injuries played a big part in our downfall along with bad decisions by the coaching staff.....just one of you tell me this is'nt so......just one of you tell me with a healthy team why we should'nt have been there.....the rebuilding is almost there and now i believe we have the crucial backups for the injuries that will come to see us over the next hurdle... all of you need to do is step back and look at this picture...... i don't care if we squeek in as a wildcard, if the luck is there, we will prevail......and one more question, who the hell ever thought tb would crush oakland in a lobsided score? tell it like you see it, not how you feel it..............smitty

It would be hard to disagree with your post ssmitty as your points are well understood. Most people believe LUCK has little if anything to do with anything in this world as we know it. Personally, I believe LUCK has a lot to do with many things. The shape of a football allows for it to bounce in uncertain directions. The lucky bounce of the ball! A mistake by an official could possibly be viewed as luck when something such as an inadvertant whistle or even a questionable pass interference call can change the outcome of an entire game. These calls can\'t be reviewed or even overruled by another official when it is obvious to all that a mistake has been made. How about the lottery? Gaming or gambling calls this games of chance. Don\'t ever discount the unknown.
Hey, some of you can relate as you got LUCKY on your first time and you probably got LUCKY the last time and sometimes in between. |

i might be misinterpreting your comment about tampa in the super bowl but the way i read it you are saying that tampa was LUCKY in their blowout of oakland
there was no luck involved in that game and yes i saw the blowout coming a mile away, i didn\'t want it to happen but i saw it coming who didn\'t? gruden built oakland into what it is, that is his offense, he knows that team like the back of his hand, then turn around and give him the league\'s best defense with a week to plan??!!!! oakland never had a hope in hell tampa should\'ve been sued for insider trading |

Rusta,
I think you misunderstood what Smitty was saying about luck and unforeseen happenings. What he said was that few of us probably foresaw the SAINTS beating TB, GB and others and the not make the playoffs. And likewise, who among us saw the SAINTS crumbling to obviously weaker foes. As for his point about Tampa, he asked who foresaw TB trouncing the Raiders like they did. Luck, on the other hand, was not stated as being a part of the TB victory over Oakland. Instead, Smitty said that WE could and could have useed a few lucky lucky breaks both last year and this season. Luck can help a lot of things, i.e. lucky breaks/calls for us; unlucky breaks/calls for our opponents; the luck of a wheather conditions; the luck of another contending team suffering an unexpected loss that moves us ahead of them in the standings; etc. What I beleive he meant is that we just need luck on our side to compliment the good things we do and have done. rusta, you tell me oakland had any luck in that game besides bad luck, and i\'ll watch it once again to see where.................although it was grudens team, they got there without him.....it should have at the least been a defensive battle...........i don\'t care how good gruden knew the team, i\'ll never believe he knew what they were doing all the time. with our so called pathetic defense last yr and our very good offense, tb coulda, woulda, and shoulda kicked our asse$ with their so called dominating defense......but....they did\'nt...........did we get lucky on certain plays? you bet your as$. were we that good? yes we were...............talent and experience only bring you so far............the rest is how the ball bounces..........let me make this perfectly clear..........
i believe the talent and some experience is there...................(yes, we do need this) i am not comparing a half ass team against one overflowing with talent and experience.. although, any team can beat any team on any sunday....(it\'s been proven time and time again) i believe we have the nucleus to go to the next level and i wil take all the luck however you want to label it as far as good bounces , bad calls, missed calls, offsides, etc........... the total package includes luck.................smitty |

There are about 10 to 12 teams with enough talent (and coaching) to go all the way. Among those 10-12 teams, luck sure couldn\'t hurt. I consider the Saints one of those 10-12 with SB potential. Maybe not a can\'t miss SB contender, but with a little luck... |
