Shockey trade, draft, etc., just an opinion
While I agree, strictly from a talent and need perspective that Jeremy Shockey would be a great addition to the team, I think the speculation is a bit much. An article posted on Fanball.com (sorry, I don't have a link, it was sent email) talks about him expressing his unhappiness with his role in the offense just this week. That doesn't sound like a Sean Payton guy. Joe Horn may or may not have been run out of town for similar sentiments that he kept private until he was cut. (It became clear that this town wasn't big enough for Joe Horn and Sean Payton, Horn on WWL) As a sidebar, I believe Joe should be cheered in pregame any time he steps in the dome.
As far as the draft goes, I think we are a wild card. We could take anything from CB to CB Radio. I hope that Dorsey somehow slips to 7 or 8 and we trade up for him. Given the depth at DT I wouldn't bet on it though. Ellis I could be ok with, but not like Dorsey. Anyone who doubts Dorsey didn't watch him play throughout his career, there hasn't been a DT like him since Sapp. Statistical analysis backs this up. When you look at sure fire first round picks, the defensive guy with the most awards tends to be the most succesful. There was a breakdown on ESPN a few months back about that, wish I could remember the name of the article. The 10 pick may be too high for a corner. There is no player at the position that doesn't have enough negatives to make the pick worth it. How's that for a double negative? Everyone says CB is a need, so draft it, but what use is that if the pick is made on potential and we are waiting until 2010 to see him back up Usama. Keith Rivers is probably the safest pick at 10 if the mocks are accurate, and it wouldn't be a bad pick. I do wonder, however, if the management may be content with Connor and Vilma. If you accept that a draft class cannot be judged before three years, than Payton has had one incredible draft class, unless they all fall off dramatically, and his second class is still out to lunch, though not looking great. I mention this becuase I have read far too much complaining on this site. I expected nothing but good seats when I went to the Dome opener against Atlanta, I got magic. Let's not be negative, but positive on this site. Let's speculate, postulate, and, for those that are in a relationship, procreate. I'm sick of the negativity that anticipates a draft pick that hasn't happened, a trade that some radio station rumored. or just between two people trying to figure out if a 4-3 defense has a NT or everyone is just a DT. We are Saints fans. Adversity is crap. Water wiped out home and dome, we had a concert, a win, and got sick in a FEMA trailer...ok, strike the last one as a positive. When Sam Mills died, we mourned almost as much as the day he was traded. We root for the Manning boys because Archie stayed here (and rebuilt). We are the jewel of the United States, the most beautiful city in North America (minus the smell), the home of the best food and the most unique culture in the world. WE ARE THE HOME OF THE SAINTS, BLESS YOU BOYS |

Archie played about 25 years before Katrina came to N.O...so it took that long?? And, for the record, not all Saint fans root for the Manning boys. I was in a thread a few days ago where people at this site...a NO Saints MB...were calling Eli "garbage" and more, yet nobody would help me defend him, it seemed.
