Shortfall projected in Saints, Hornets payments; likely

Shortfall projected in Saints, Hornets payments; likely to grow | News for New Orleans, Louisiana | Local News | WWLTV.com | News for New Orleans, Louisiana

Melinda Deslatte / Associated Press

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Louisiana is short of what it owes the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Hornets by more than $6 million this year under the state's contractual obligations to the pro sports teams. And the shortfall is expected to more than triple next year.

As much as I am a Hornets fan, i am a much bigger Saints fan. Take the money from the Hornets and give to the Saints, LOL!!!!

Of course, they are ignoring the Billion Dollar surplus this year in the state coffers with oil royalties likely at an all time high. Same ol', same ol' in good ol' Louisiana!

You can vent here! Gasoline is getting out of hand. We are about to become a nation of city states because no one can afford to travel anywhere anymore. This might be the first time in ages I don't go to a Saints game this year because airline tickets are just ridiculous. And the oil companies keep on hogging up the profits like pigs that can't stop eating at the trough even though they are full. Solar and wind power cannot get here fast enough for me.

Well considering this entire country is going through a recession right now, I would say our "country" is in trouble.

Man I have to drive out of town every weekend ( MS, LA, Tenn, & GA) from March to the end of July taking my oldest daughter to Travel Tourney Softball games; plus hotel. $9,000.00 a year just in Softball travel.

First post here, although I have been reading for several months:

"Melinda Deslatte / Associated Press

This is exactly the kind of bad press that Louisiana doesn't need. If you make a deal, keep it!
Further more, we will never get consideration for another SuperBowl until a long term deal is reached. Also, media talk like this doesn't help our case for New Orleans remaining an NFL city. New Orleans, ironically, got a break because of Katrina in regards to keeping the Saints. Don't think for a second that if we slip a little either in late incentive payments or ticket sales the whole Los Angeles rumor won't come up again.
Just pay them, get a long term deal done, and let's NEVER discuss this again.

That sounds pretty cheap compared to the prices we have over here...Whats your price per gallon or liter?

No sense in complaining about gas prices with Crusader on board. Those folks in Sweden and Norway pay out the nose for fuel, I think they may have the highest prices in the world for fuel. Us lucky folks in Jackson, Mississippi are hitting it at around $3.25 per gallon. Of course, folks around Jackson and the rest of the USA do not drive Mr. Bean cars either, and our government doesn't tax the hell out of fuel like the European Government does ... LOL

Anyway, back to the subject. Mark it in the books, both New Orleans teams will eventually be gone. I say give it about 5 years and New Orleans will no longer have major professional sports. Just my opinion, but I really don't see an alternative option. Very sad stuff...

Forget the Hotel tax; they could add a fifty cents sur-tax to T-Shirt Sales on Canal Street and have that payment in 90 days!

Naming Rights...

You Mean that BP or Shell can't step up and knock out a little black and gold nugget...

I mean the Saints colors are freaking Black and Gold because of the oil industry...

State legislators should stick to selling used cars and lawyers should go sue each other...

Regular is 3.29, Plus 3.49, and Supreme... I don't even bother to look at. Gas prices over where you're at is absurd... but you guys have the subway system.
