Talib instead of Cromartie?
Wonder why it is that Mel Kiper has changed his pick for the Saints first rounder this year? He's steadily been predicting the Saints would pick Cromartie. Now he's got the Saints picking Aqib Talib with the 10th pick. Talib has had substance abuse issues in the past. I seriously don't think the Saints would pick Talib with those issues. What's up? Note: I don't think the Saints will move up to 2.

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
I agree that if they stay put, they will not look at Talib even if they think he is worth the pick. Talib is likely dropping down all teams draft boards and could be had towards the end of the 1st round. But I am no Mel Kiper....

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
well BR you have better insight than mel right now IMO.
Everyone knows I really like him but every time he is in the paper it is all negative. Missed workouts and the pot smoking issue will all kill him. He has worked his way out of the top 20 by now. But with his skill set and size some team may take the pick on him still. The Saints? I have a hard time believing Sean will look past these recent issues. |
Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
Talib has been Kiper's favorite cornerback since the end of last year. He consistently pumps him up whenever he gets the chance... it's not a surprise he has Talib going to us at 10. If in fact Talib is our pick, all I can say is that I hope he's right. I like the other corners much more than he does.

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
I'm a huge Kiper fan and it hurts to say this but Mel needs to chill out with his man crush on Talib. There's alot to like about Talib but the good is outweighed by the bad. It's funny because Mel is usually not very high on players with character issues. I remember when Lawrence Phillips was coming out everybody had him as the hands down best RB in the draft but Mel refused to put him at the top of his board due to Phillips' past. Mel said that Phillips was a player that couldn't walk the straight and narrow and boy was he right!

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
i think the fact that talib returns kicks is part of why hes up there for us. but i agree with hagan, his smoking issue is gonna hurt him.

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
Truthfully mel is right about him. He is going to be good "on the field".
I see him as one of the best CB in the draft. But he is also probably the best FS on the board. I know it is a reach to go to FS but I feel pretty good about it. He is the best tweener we have seen in a while. |

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
i was on kipers side at first....talib impressed me when i watched clips of him but after hearing so much hype about DRC and knowing that Mckelvin is a better prospect according to just about every source i've heard from...we wont draft talib and most likely wont even draft a corner.

The Saints need to continue to upgrade the front 7 of the defense. DT first. Will LB second. There's no need to talk about a 3rd option for the first round. Ideal: Dorsey Excellent: Ellis Acceptable: Rivers Anything else is not an option for the Saints in their current state. SFIAH |

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
its not that they wouldnt have an impact but i think that a DT will have more of an impact on our Defense than any other position... while i think mayo and conner will both be better than shanle eventually, as a rookie i dont think they would be that much of an upgrade at that position this year... none of the LBs this year have the ability of a Patrick Willis and i dont see his type of production from any of them..

Re: Talib instead of Cromartie?
If we're going to sit here and compare all linebackers to Patrick Willis every year, every linebacker coming out any year probably wouldn't be able to match his type of production. Willis is a rare specimen... let's not forget that.
