Re: think of third and long! wow!
If we can generate enough of a pash rush up front, there wont be the need for alot of blitzing. I wouldnt mind seeing us pick a pass rush/blitz specialist from the LB spot with our 3rd round pick if we choose not to go CB. Maybe we could get Dorsey in the first and Highsmith in the 3rd. Fans around the state would be giddy.

Re: think of third and long! wow!
ive been very ademate about promoting the movement of charles grant to DT...mccray is a definite downgrade from charles grant but as long as his play is consistant that front seven would be a force to reckon with....if thats how the lineup ends up i expect nfc champs and nothing less....the afc has a tendency to rip apart defenses so i wont go as far as to say we'd have rings but that pretty much guarentees teams wont run on us....and then the pressure from vilma who may be jesus in disguise on passes....i cant see us losing more than 4 games

Re: think of third and long! wow!
Agreed...i dont think the best move is for grant to be inside permanently but on passing downs, he is an ideal fit inside. smith and mccray along with any blitz packages will spread the line out and give grant a better chance of either blowing past slower guards or out maneuvering them and generating a push in the middle...forcing qbs to roll out the pocket makes for a dangerous situation for the offense

I agree thats why i said third and long. i think on first and second DE grant and Smith and DT hollis and dorsey would do just fine with mccray and young rotating to keep everybody fresh. that would be great 6 guys that can play and be fresh all the time.

First of all you have to look at the D coach... he hasn't impressed me with innovation or creativity so far. We are going to have to part with him if there is not a vast improvement this year.
McCray alternates in for the DE on passing downs giving us more explosion off the line and you sit who he replaces. Its better to give them a rest than letting them hold there ground inside. I'd rather see smith inside than Grant. Put it this way give me the fastest most explosive front 7 on passing downs period. Whoever that works out to be this camp. |

Re: think of third and long! wow!
As long as we have Gibbs as our DC we will not be blitzing. He has proven time and time again that no matter how obvious of a passing down, no matter how poor the QB (David Carr) we will not blitz. WE gave up our fair share of 3rd and longs last year and with Gibbs at the helm we will continue that again this year. We haven't had a legitimate defensive coordinator since Zook.
