Could You Remember A More Anticipated Saints Draft???

Heading into this year's draft, how do you feel about the teams offseason moves, the coaches, the rumors of trades and players wanting to come to New Orleans...?

Are these signs of a turnaround for the team?

Reminds me alot of the 2006 draft. Same solid free agent acquisitions & the same buzz about the right player(s) in the draft.

I love the aggressiveness for two reasons. One, we arent in denial about our weaknesses in years past and two, i love hearing about us on ESPN more often. I think that Vilma and Morgan are significant upgrades to the defense so long as both or at least one of them can stay healthy. They should be able to help us sure up the run defense. Signing Gay and Glenn certainly provide competition at camp and give us a very strong #2 if McKenzie can come back in form allowing us to continue to develop Young without throwing him to the Wolves and allowing Craft, Thomas, or David to play the nickel which is a much more natural position for them at these points in their careers. I think the most important signing is McCray. He gives us another pass rusher and allows us to move Grant inside on passing downs. I think a DT is still the missing piece of the defense which is why Im so strong about moving up to get Dorsey or Ellis.

The 2006 draft was, IMO, way more hyped than this one. With the possibility of getting Reggie Bush, people were wetting their pants on this board with excitement.

p.s. - Reggie Bush breakout year? Count on it.

I like the buzz that NO is bringing to the media...it means i get to see something goin on from ohio....as far as FA and offseason moves i am dissappointed...i think that all we managed to do was sign a bunch of backups aside from vilma and morgan....unfortunately randall gay will start the season and it will be jason david all over again....i love the rumors about trades....it keeps the draft interesting......i think that when we drafted reggie it was more anticipated but i think because of our position and the depth at all of our needs makes for a great draft this year

He's not finished retooling the defense. More LB's, DB's, DT's coming in next week. Sweet.

i just dont see it....i think after the draft the saints are going to be done dealing....they just wont have the firepower that they had before and during the draft....if we make a move for shockey or shepard it will be draft day saturday or sunday.....if we dont make a move for either of them we will take a need position at CB and DT...i think we secured up a linebacking core with the addition of vilma and morgan....everybody forgets how solid and consistant defensive captain scott fujita is

I'd have to say, considering how well we did in 2006 and the drop off in 2007, this IS the most anticipated draft in Saints history.

Its exciting don't get me wrong but I don't think this is more anticipated than most we have had. Its just a draft like any other year, it would be more if we were picking 1 or 2.

Re: Could You Remember A More Anticipated Saints Draft?

I really don't think so. If you're picking 1 or 2 you don't have many options, theres that one guy thats really good and head and shoulders above the rest, and you know you're going to pick him. You basically have to look forward to round 2 and 3.

Re: Could You Remember A More Anticipated Saints Draft?

Mine was the 1999 draft. I knew that Ditka wanted Ricky Williams, but I was convinced the Saints had no shot at him. As the draft got underway, the Saints tried trading up with Cincinnati and no go. Then after Cincinnati picked Smith I had some hope again. Then when Indy refused to trade with the Saints I thought it was over, no Ricky Williams. Then to my surprise they selected Edgerin James. OK, it's not over yet. I held my breath and the commissioner came on and said that the Saints have traded with Washington for the 5th spot. When it was announced that the Saints got Ricky Williams I was so geeked I called everyone I knew. The 1999 draft was my most hyped and most enjoyable draft. That draft was on the radio because I didn't have cable TV at the time. That made it even more special. Too bad Ricky only lasted 3 seasons in New Orleans.

i was pretty excited for the reggie draft.. b/c i thought we would get A J hawk.. lol.. then when the texans signed mario williams.. i was really pumped then... i think this one is exciting b/c of all the trade rumors we hear about the saints.. that and we have an awesome team and we have a chance to really improve both sides of the ball really quickly in this draft..
