Saints / Jets Good & Bad
I thought the Saints played much better this week.
But they went from the glass being 1/4 full to being 1/2 full. Good and bad from the game... Good: Deuce, Horn, Brooks, Pathon... It does appear that these guys make a difference. They look like they are coming around and they will be in fine form when we go to Seatlle. The offense looks like they will be at full throtttle soon. Little kinks still need to be addressed but no glaring problems AT ALL!!! Bad: Defense looked much improved individually, but the secondary is still confused. They better all get on the same page soon. It appears they are on pace to gel in time, but it has me worried. Mitchell and Jones appear to be on opposite pages. After many plays I saw both of them look at each other with palms up wondering what, why, and how they broke down assignments. Of couse this is expected with so many new faces but it's becoming a concern. They have break-down issues to fix. They still have 2 games left so its not panic time yet. DL looked good, especially Grady. He'd be an all pro at 315lbs. 6/10, improving steady... PATIENCE! |

Aaron Brooks made very good decisions with the ball. When there was nothing there he either ran and got as much yardage as possible or threw the ball away. Aaron looks and sounds like he has matured a lot. Duece McAllister makes this a different offense. Just the fact that he\'s on the field makes the offense more effective. Ernie Conwell looked like the real deal. Joe Horn said Ernie told him that you ain\'t seen nothing yet. Wait until I get my speed back, then you\'ll really see what I can do. Defensive Line. Even in the first game the opposing offense didn\'t get much up the middle and the Jets didn\'t get anything up the middle either. I like this unit. Linebackers. Played much better and you could see the speed. Secondary. Had trouble on the underneath stuff. Ambrose looked bad. We need Dale Carter back and I think that\'s going to make a big difference. Just a few comments on the defense in general. I think when you look at this defense on terms of induvidual players that it has the potential to shock a lot of people. Charles Grant had 7 sacks and 4 forced fumbles last year in limited play. There is no reason to think he will not do better this year. Darren Howard if he can stay healty is a play maker on defense. Everyone knows what he can do. Grady Jackson looks likes he\'s playing with a chip on his shoulder. If he continues to do so, then he is dominate. Kenny Smith, Johnathan Sullivan, Henry Ford-- One of these players will win the battle for the other starting defensive tackle positions and I think we will be strong there, with the potential of one of those guys to be dominate. Tebucky Jones is a good player regardless of what some opinions might be. Mel Mitchel is a missle out there. I think given a little time and he can be a special player I don\'t pay too much attention to preseason games but the defense improved from the first game and hopefully that will continue through the preseason and into the regular season |

The guy that shocked me was Melvin Williams. He was a 2nd rounder before his knee injury, and we drafted him for next year. Put him on the practice squad and let him re-hab and come on strong next year. That was the plan, but ...
Somebody forgot to tell Melvin. I know it was against scrubs but this guy is lightning fast. He never stopped. I kept thinking, \"damn he looks like a young Reggie White, I can\'t believe what I\'m seeing\" Could this be our diamond in the rough??? |

I don\'t even think saintz08 would argue that point but then again he might... Your right though Tweeky. Melvin looked like he was shot out of a cannon. I hope to see him a lot in the next 2 preseason games. |

Whats scary about Melvin Williams is that just a week and half ago he admitted that he was scared to go full speed on his knee. Hopefully as time goes on he\'ll forget about that knee and concentrate on Qb\'s.............I know i\'m pulling for him and his knee

By the way, did anybody see Sullivan even get across the line of scrimmage? |
