Not sure I like this pick. But we do need a CB.

Re: With their 2nd round pick, the Saints select:
I posted this on another thread, but thought I'd say it here too:
As much as I question this pick (who the hell is Tracy Porter???), I do think that he's a guy that will fit our system. He's fast as hell (ran a 4.37) and is apparently a very good cover corner. For what it's worth, he was the best CB on ESPN's board when he was chosen. Also, here's a bit of his scouting report from ESPN: Porter lacks good strength and needs to become more physical, both versus the run and in coverage. However, he is a quick-twitched athlete capable of blanketing wide receivers in man-to-man coverage. |

Re: With their 2nd round pick, the Saints select:
Connor was the one guy I was hoping we'd avoid, so I guess that's another reason why I'm feeling pretty good about Porter. We have enough linebackers in the mold of Connor, and if we were going to select one, I would have liked to see a more athletic player, somebody like Erin Henderson or Xavier Adibi.

I'm still just happy as hell we went up to get Ellis. Porter has to be better than David. Plus now with Young, Gay, & Porter, there is some depth and youth at the position. If MM comes back strong I think we will be in good shape. I would rather have seen Connor condering the health questions at that position but overall I think our Def is much improved and not a bad draft so far.

This kids highlight reel is pretty amazing. Really tight man coverage resulting in some spectacular interceptions. Really fast and makes good returns on picks. Not shabby at all for a "who the hell?" guy.

Re: With their 2nd round pick, the Saints select:
For what it's worth ALL of the experts on both ESPN and NFL network loved this pick. Mayock said that Porter has the best skill set of any CB in the draft. He also said that the reason he slipped was because he isn't very physical at all. That's fine with me though. We needed more speed on the edge and Porter runs a 4.38. In our scheme we don't rely on CBs to make plays against the run like in a cover 2. We needed a man corner and we got one. The kid is supposed to be a terror in the return game so that's a bonus.
