I like the pick. This is a guy we can develop. Starter this year? Not likely. But this kid could be developed. He's a fantastic athlete, with track, basketball, and football under his belt. He's been moved around quite a bit in football - quarterback, wide receiver, safety, corner, etc. He's got the potential, although he hasn't played football very long, so he'll need time and coaching. But this kid could be a great acquisition, he's got the intagibles.

I think I'm pretty cool with the pick. He's a local guy from Port Arthur. Read some of the things that NFL.com interviewed him on from the combine. Especially the question about him playing Madden.

Saints Defense is definitely getting faster...stronger...
With the depth at CB...wondering if Randall Gay isn't moved to Safety with Bullocks and Kaesviharn and allow Harper and a 6 go for Shockey... Waiting to hear if Shockey trade is officially dead?!? Maybe Giants used Saints to shake Shockey and reestablish the NYG Food Chain... |

Re: With their 2nd round pick, the Saints select:
For what it's worth ALL of the experts on both ESPN and NFL network loved this pick. Mayock said that Porter has the best skill set of any CB in the draft. He also said that the reason he slipped was because he isn't very physical at all. That's fine with me though. We needed more speed on the edge and Porter runs a 4.38. In our scheme we don't rely on CBs to make plays against the run like in a cover 2. We needed a man corner and we got one. The kid is supposed to be a terror in the return game so that's a bonus.

Me too. Some people had this kid ranked as high as the 4th best corner in the draft. But what I really like about him is his versatility. This guy could be something special in a couple years.

Re: With their 2nd round pick, the Saints select:
I'm happy we got a solid KR/PR... we needed more excitement on our special teams unit. Besides reading a scouting report here and there, I can't say I know too much about him. I'm hopeful a year or two down the road this kid can be a solid starter at corner for us. We certainly addressed two areas of need with this one pick. I wanted someone else but I don't hate the pick.

Keep in mind those questioning this kid's size...Indiana Univ isn't known for its football facilities...We he starts training on Airline with State of the Art facilities and Professional Trainers, they'll put that gumbo into the shoulders and chest where he'll gain needed bulk...

i didnt expect the trade to happen after the giants drafted kenny phillips. we used our 2nd and they drafted a safety. id say that puts the rumors to bed.
