2008 NFL Draft Picks:
7. Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC
Nice job by the Saints trading up ahead of the Bengals. Given Cincinnati's draft history and ineptitude, I doubt they would have drafted Sedrick Ellis, but you never know. New Orleans fans have to love the monstrous beast the team added to its defensive line. (Pick Grade: A) 40. Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana Tracy Porter was listed as a first-round prospect in some mocks, so the Saints got tremendous value at 40 at a position of need. More importantly, Porter actually fits the team's system. (Pick Grade: A) 144. DeMario Pressley, DT, N.C. State The Saints needed all the defensive line help they could get going into the draft. They acquired two talented tackles. DeMario Pressley, projected to go in the third round, is a bargain in the fifth. (Pick Grade: A) 164. Carl Nicks, OT, Nebraska The Saints have established that they're one of the few teams in the NFL that actually know what they're doing. This is the biggest steal in the draft. Matt McGuire had Carl Nicks in the first. I had Nicks very early in the second. New Orleans just drafted a winner in the fifth round. (Pick Grade: A) 178. Taylor Mehlhalff, K, Wisconsin Good to see the Saints don't plan on counting on Martin Gramatica. (Pick Grade: A) 237. Adrian Arrington, WR, Michigan Like Steve Johnson, this is a seventh-round receiver taken three rounds too late. An absolute steal for the Saints. Re: 2008 NFL Draft Picks:
IMO
Ellis: A+...nothing to add that hasn't already been said. Porter: B..greta ball skills and will contribute early in nickel and dime sets. Pressley: B-...not fully sold but I trust our scounts/front office/coaching staff. Nicks: B...what a beast, youtube his name, with proper coaching he could be a great RT. Kicker: F...could have picked him up in FA and drfted an OLB like Highsmith. |
Re: 2008 NFL Draft Picks:
BTW, please excuse the spelling, blame Miller Lite!!!

Re: 2008 NFL Draft Picks:
Don't be surprise, barring injury, if Porter isn't starting by Week 4-5, if Gay slides to Safety or a DB is traded...

Re: Walter gives us Straight A's
I love Ellis and give the pick a A+.
I think Porter is a nice pick, I would rate it a solid B because of some questions about his toughness, the ?'s about his tackling are silly, he had 80+tackles last season. Pressley is another young beast in the middle to add PRESSURE to the opposing OB which we all know will go a long way in improving our secondary. I rate the pick a solid B. Nicks is a beast, he is 6'5" and a house of a man, if he is coached up he could be our starting RT this season, I grade it an A. Mehlhaff, I rate this an F, I think we could have scooped him in FA. This pick should have been an OLB or S. Just my 2 cents....Steveo |
Re: Walter gives us Straight A's
Ellis-A
Porter-A Pressley-B Nicks-A+ Kicker-C Arrington-B Overall draft-A minus |
Re: Walter gives us Straight A's
i am very happy with this draft...
the kicker is questionable, but besides that i think the saints came away with possibly 3-5 players that could be starting by the end of the year (ellis, porter, pressley, nicks and mehlhaff)...ellis and nicks will start by the end of the year |
Re: Walter gives us Straight A's
I think Ellis will start in game one against Tampa!
|
Re: Walter gives us Straight A's
Why you so high on nicks which i like and whos job do you think he takes?
|
Re: Walter gives us Straight A's
If the kicker turns out to end our inconsistency since we let Carney leave, then I'll give it a B. No one was suprised that he was drafted, just that he was the first kicker off the board.
