He was disappointed in not hearing his name called in last weekend's NFL draft, but signed a free contract with the New Orleans Saints and will be heading there soon to try to make the team. When he was a senior at Lakewood Ranch High five years ago, Schwartz was in a similar position. Despite a standout career, the only Division I-A scholarships he received were from University of Houston and the United States Military Academy (Army). A relentless worker with extreme intensity, the 5-foot-11, 205-pound safety went on to have a stellar career at Houston where he became one of the program's all-time leading tacklers. If not for a knee injury his junior year, it's very likely Schwartz would have been drafted. |
