Are we doing with Shockey what we did last year...

No, not the players. Just asking if we think Shockey can help more than he really can because we all know what Brees did with Gates?

Thomas had the "potential" to help us whereas Shockey is a proven player. Also, Shockey is a different TE than Gates. Gates is more of a find the hole, get up and make the catch TE. Shockey would be used in our offense to stretch the seams, bait the safeties, and provide severe mismatch problems when him and Reggie were on the field at the same time. Gates is the best TE in football because he carries his team's passing game. Shockey would not be asked to be the main (and only) target, but to compliment the other weapons we have while adding another dimension to the offense.

Gates is the best RECEIVING tight end in football, but Shockey is the best blocking TE and probably the second or third best receiver.

Without Shockey, we're a top five offense this year.

With Shockey, we're a top five offense all time.
