Say what? Look at this kid. If he was a bit faster he could be a SS. I want to see him lay some one out. He has all Madden written all over him. LOL

I like the pick Canton. we have been carrying one to many kickers on this team. Plus if we have to travel north in the playoffs he will be worth his weight in gold. Cold weather? whats that? chalk up another 3. Imagine the Chicago game all over and this time put him in the picture putting up 3's from 40 yards out. That game could have been different.

i agree....since john carney weve managed to carry 2 kickers...mare was supposed to be the answer..he had a stronger leg than carney but wasnt quite as accurate....even tho carney always seemed to miss crucial extra points....gramatica is a good kicker but he keeps shuffeling among the NFC south...we drafted a kicker to be...our kicker..lol as dumb as that sounds...it does make sense...he can kick great from inside 50 and is consistant enough inside 55 yards....i have a huge mancrush on mehlhaff and i want him to someday be the saints all time leading scorer taking over carney's spot

If this guy doesn't forget how to kick once he starts playing in the NFL, the Saints may have the kicking spot wrapped up for the next 15 years.

I like his economy of motion on FG's. He barely seems to move, yet the ball explodes off his foot. (maybe it's a broken-in ball) He seems to over extend on the KO's, but he should get stronger for another 2-3 years.

he led the nation in touchbacks on kick offs...

Re: Taylor Mehlhaff is a K?

First of all...did he even miss a kick?

Second...after the third kick...i already like him better than grammy or that guy carney!

2 words for ya...MAN CRUSH...and he's just a kicker...Go Saints!

pakowitz 05-12-2008 10:45 PM

Re: Taylor Mehlhaff is a K?

those 1 step kicks are pretty impressive.. u have to have alot of leg strength to do that.. and that crazy ass running kickoff.. lol that was cool...

Re: Taylor Mehlhaff is a K?

One more thing...i think this kid gets a chance to tee off on a KR or two this season...he should be fun to watch during all kicking duties...don't mess with the "haff"

I could care what he "looks like" can he make kicks for points under pressure?

Thats all a kicker has to do, really.

haha but if he does make kicks..would u rather him look like a man-girl like gramatica...or the like f#@%ing beast like taylor mehlhaff lol....pick ur poison...the dude is a stud...he will hopefully be our starter for years to come....whether he can kick far or not is irrelevant cuz when he does kick he is very accurate....not too many kickers can kick from 55 yards accurately so he doesnt have ne thing to worry about there...its up to drew and our line to get him in range

Honestly, i really don't care what he "looks like"

If that's important to you, great. But you're pretty much "head over heels" for this guy already and he's never kicked in a real game before.

Sully looked good in a uniform as well. Lets just not get "carried away" ok?

Let's not get carried away?...dude...it's may...all we can do right now is get carried away...please let us enjoy our small moment of excitement before the season starts...this kid could be a flop as you say...however...his potential is something to be positive about...thanks for the post...but please don't rain on my "haff" parade :phat:

u know why im head over heels for this kid?....because hes a f@#%ing saint...thats why...i am freaking pumped....im allowed to be because thats what the offseason is about....u get excited for a new season...everything starts over....forget the records...the hype....the stories from last year.....its a new day bro....ne thing can happen....its no different than drooling over sedrick ellis or carl nicks or adrian arrington or tracy porter or the plethera of undrafted rookies or our new linebacking core or our new secondary additions or the potential of bobby mccray at DE....or the possible addition of #80 who shall remain nameless....ur right....im head over heels....but its for the new season.....and i know im not the only one

Mehlhaff is going to win games for us NEXT year. not to belittle any of our other acquisitions this offseason, but this guy may be the best of the bunch simply because kickers put up more points than anyone else on the team! (excluding ladainian tomlinson)

thats exactly why im so excited about the pick...kickers dont get drafted ne more and when they do....its because they are good....mehlhaff has the potential to replace john carney in our record books all together....i want him to be our all-time leading scorer...i want him to kick the final field goal with .03 on the clock...i want him to win us a super bowl like adam vinitari(forgive spelling)...i want him to be the man...i am all aboard this kid...i think he makes the team as the KO and the field goal specialist

Drafted kickers are always good, right?

Apparently you don't even know your own Saints history there. Get a clue man. And besides, your little message board posts and idealism is not going to do anything for this guys game.

But hey, if daydreaming about mostly unlikely scenarios is your thing hop, frog, hop. Just dont' act like everyone is in on your delusions about it, ok? Lets not forget the wild speculations that came with one RB that hasn't quite "lived up to the hype" so its a bit more responsible and mature to not get all wide eyes and speculative yet....

"dont call him a cowboy, till you see him ride"

God I hate kickers. I think they should pay their teams for the privelege of playing.

If the kid will tackle and be a threat on trick plays, I may warm up to him.

drafted kickers usually turn out good...kickers are one of the easiest positions to judge coming out of college because really their job doesnt change much...and as far as the running back that didnt live up to the hype...dont talk about PT like that lol....ppl will jump on u....i think mehlhaff will come in and be a great saint for years....thanks for the buzzkill tho buddy..somebody always manages to come on a good thread and kill it with somethign like that

why do u hate kickers...they almost always lead the team in points scored and sometimes win games pretty much all by themselves....i think kickers are so underrated....they deserve a lot more credit than they get...the bad thing is that they are easily replaced so that means that they dont make too much money(NFL money)...i'd be happy with 300K a year lol

Re: Taylor Mehlhaff is a K?

Great Vids : I think preseason is going to be the proving ground for him. We will see for ourselves then. Think that Gramatica will stay or will his pride be hurt if this guy beats Him out ? Hope the team will keep both for insurance as Gram did come through for us last year and I think Gram is an damn good field goal kicker (of course kickoffs he is just average). Problem is a lot of teams think kickers are expendable and the Saints traditionally have been one of the worst allowing this to happen. I hope last year taught Payton a lesson.
