So who are the solid WLB's available to us?

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; With Morgan retired I know we have Shanle. Besides Shanle, what other LBs on our squad or "available" would fit the bill and not break the bank? Did Simmons sign with another team already?...

Looks like Luke Sanders needs to step his game up 100%.

Re: So who are the solid WLB's available to us?

i know its hard to stomache but i think we are going to go into the season with the LBs we have....i think simineau will start at MLB and vilma will be strong side...leaving fujita at weakside..i really believe that is our best option unless we pick up another LB...i would rather see simineau on the field than shanle....if we have to move vilma to do that then so be it...vilma is no doubt our best linebacker and IMO i believe him to be a great fit at ne of the LB positions....and even better at strong side because of his speed and quickness to the ball

Re: So who are the solid WLB's available to us?

My vote is to bring in either Spikes or Thurman before training camp. Neither of them is ideal, but at the same time nor are they any more of a "risk" than Dan Morgan was. I'm more comfortable with Spikes' shoulder than I was with the possibililty of Morgan getting concussed again. As for Thurman, I think that a change of scenery may do him some good, he's very young comparatively, and he's obviously got a good skill set and a good motor. I'd like to see us bring one of them in on a low-level, incentive based contract. We'll see...

IMO it would be better to bring in thurman just because of the youth movement we seem to be making...i dont think spikes has ne thing left and we seem to be in a good position to sign him....again...i dont think it will happen but i do like the idea of the "u play, u get paid" type of contract that we would offer him....he led Cincy in tackles when he played and was a dominant threat on defense every play....i would like to see him in black and gold as long as he keeps his nose clean

we have to bring someone in,Vilma is a MLB, plain and simple. with his build it is a good chance he will struggle at WLB or SLB, but be a beast as a Mlb

We're already putting a ton of FAITH in Vilma being the player he once was.

Is Ricky Jackson still available? Solid veteran with little mouths to feed ...

Re: So who are the solid WLB's available to us?

Troy Evans is our only WLB in camp besides Scott Shanle.
I keep looking at the roster and I see nothing else to speak off.
Luke Sanders?????
I keep looking at the FA and their is only the names we have thrown around already. WLB are just not there.

Takeo Spikes
Odell Thurman
Isaiah Ekejiuba
Randall Godfrey
Mario Haggan
Warrick Holdman
Junior Seau
Adam Seward
Donnie Spragan
Jeremiah Trotter
Ian Gold
Roosevelt Colvin

Looking at the list there are not really any true WLB to talk about unless we are talking walking wounded or trying to play them out of position. This maybe a spot to roll the dice one more time in the FO. Character or injury or age?

Well lets see what happens the next few months.
