Anyone have access to the coaches' footage?
 

I'm curious to see what the Bills did to shut Brees and the receivers down. Or what Payton/Brees saw in the running game to keep them from throwing the ball.

This was a completely different type of offense. I just want to know why they went this route for this game.

Man, I wish I did have access to that. I'd love to see what both teams did on D. I know we threw a bunch of new defensive looks at Buff, but those two pitchers of Restoration i put down hampered my ability to analyze much of anything.

Still, I'm betting the story on Buff's D was 2 deep safeties and a up-the-middle pass rush. Brees always has a tough time with the middle rush and there didn't see to be a lot open down field.

That also jibes with the good running game we put together. They weren't stacking the box and gave us the run.

Without the actual footage to show, I would guess that the weather played the most important part in stopping Brees. I know that the Bills ran with a nickel back often played coverage more than any other mode, but I doubt that would keep Brees down without the wind.

It was swirling strong enough to require a holder on kickoffs throughout the entire game. Among the few passes that I saw thrown, the sailed and wound up very off-target for both Brees and for Edwards. The shorts routes seemed to work pretty well, but that's all that was working. I think that Brees wound up statistically low (for him) because he was smart with the ball and chose not to throw it.

It's just a guess, but its my BEST guess.

To me it look liked the field conditions had a lot to do with it. The turf was slick from the rain and the receivers didn't get much separation after the first drive.

I agree. Best example was Drew overthrowing Devery on that deep ball. Devery usually outruns those, and Brees doesn't have that type of gun.

I also noticed that Brees' short stuff was also a bit off the mark. Brees normally hits guys in stride, which allows them the get good yards after the catch. Even 6'5" Shockey had to adjust and go down to make some catches. Twice Bush got flat footed and unable to go 0-to-60 away from a linebacker. Brees has been showing much better accuracy...not just getting the completion, but putting the ball on the right side of the receiver. A couple of punts got hung up in the wind, and bounced back towards the kicking team, kind of an abnormal occurance. There had to be something going on. The running game gives us options, thank God for options.

I truly believe the wind is what hurt the passing attack. The Saints pretty much run a precision type passing game, and the wind pretty much kills it.
