Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Houston to New Orleans and Back.
"Back" is always the tough part. My wife & I drive about every other weekend in the Fall--for Saints Football Season! I drive just like Burt Reynolds, maybe cooler, and it still takes 6 hours. We'll sleep in New Orleans one weekend, or stay on a bayou another. We just dig trying out different places in Louisiana, even doing touristy stuff, in Cajun Country, or in New Orleans itself. I think we've stayed in every hotel in the CBD. Living in the rat race in Houston, sometimes we enjoy being in the middle of nowhere, or at least Breaux Bridge. Other game weekends, you just have to go to the French Quarter. Every La. weekend is different, and I love em all. So we Saints fans, I believe, do more driving than any other fan base, except maybe Green Bay. The I-10 Houston to New Orleans Caravan has to be the biggest in football. Even before the Storm, partly due to the Oil Biz, a lot of people split time between TX & LA. And I know Houston has as many WhoDats as it does Texans fans. You cant miss us. I always paint a big shoe-white FLEUR DE LIS on my back window, and of course all the Saints stickers. Another phenomenon of Saints fandom is getting "WhoDat'ed, when you drive down the road, right? "honk honk honk honk!" (big wave, thumbs up, or #1 gesture) So, just wondering, who else is making the I-10 Saints March this weekend? |
Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
I make the I 285 to I 85 to I 65 to I 10 West. That's 7 hours, and I usually don't start seeing Saints fans until Mobile!
Wish I could be making the drive this weekend but the EX is moving out and need to make sure none of my stuff disappears with her... Ya'll have a blast in N.O. Have some Dome Foam for me and get LOUD!! |

I use to make that trip, Mike, during my Houston days, but today I would be taking 64W to 65S to 59S to Slidell, where I have lived at 5 different addresses, and then pick up 10W into New Orleans. |
Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
I roll out of bed on a Sunday morning, walk down the stairs and put on the coffee, make some breakfast and sit out by the pool. I usually smoke a cigar while I listen to the radio pregame broadcast of all the people filing into the superdome.
About 11:30 people start coming over the house to watch the game on my 108" HDTV projection system. Beer is on the house but most people can't climb that high, so they bring their own. Plus, you can smokem if you gottem. I used to go to the games but I the ticket prices got to be unreal, and the wife doesn't care to go. |
Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Cool deal Mike. I know a few Houstonians who make the trip on occasion but every game?!
I usually climb in the car at about 9am and make the long 30 minute commute over the causeway. Lots of honking and thumbs up on there as well. |

. See my pretty young wife there? <<<<<<< Now look at me. I'm short, poor, old, drive a beat-up-truck, and come with much baggage. BUT I DRIVE REALLY COOL. . . . and that is why she wants me. Please do not mention this statement to her, or we will both be laughed out of our seats. |
Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
I'm the Floor Captain at a "fancy" restaurant here in B'ham which means I pretty much get pooped on every Sunday and have to work brunch because we're short staffed. I managed to get out there in time for the second half of the DET game and we finally got a TV in the restaurant for the PHI game, so I saw all of it.
The BUF game was at 3, so I hit up the local watering hole with sunday ticket and took on a couple of pitcher of Restoration. You ever get a hangover the same day that you got drunk? No fun. Anyway, the Giants game is the day after my 30th B-day and my wonderful girl friend (former Houstonian and oiler fan who I have converted into a Saints fan) got us tickets. We're taking the train down and a SW flight back. Buddy Guy is playing Saturday and it's a free show, so that's on the agenda. Got some contacts that own a restaurant (anyone been to Cochon?), so we'll hit that up, too. Get this, though: she's never been to New Orleans or a big time football game at any level. She's about to have her face melted off. |

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Unfortunately Mike we will not be burning up I-10 East with you this game but will be for the Giants game. We'll keep the Who-Dats going in Houston area this weekend.

---My info is a bit spotty for La, but I'm not showing any major construction closures for I-10 this weekend. --- If you normally leave Houston via loop 610, dont do it. 1. Complete closure of the loop between McCarty & 59 2. Complete closure of 610 NB at I-10. (coming NB from the Ship Channel Bridge) I'm pretty sure they'll close the ramps too and route you thru the Barrio. Say hi to all MY brothers there. 3. also the feeder rds of I-10 will be pretty fornicated between 610 and Uvalde --this is FEEDER roads only. ---But I dont show any major closures for I-10 mainlanes. 225 looks good too if you go to 146 thru Baytown & hit I-10 at Mont Belvieu. ---Of course we have the ongoing crap between Vidor and Orange on I-10. 3 Lanes are open, but you've got the TexDot Wall O' Death tm to pucker your butt there. Sometimes I travel hwy 73 thru Port Arthur just to avoid it. But watch for gators! I know there's some ongoing work on I-10 near Lake Charles, right? Anybody know of ongoing roadwork on I-10 on the Louisiana side? btw, N.O. friends, my producers say there will be closures both ways on the Huey P. Long Bridge monday morning at 9am until 3.... each day next week. |

[QUOTE=skymike;168296]We're going to the Giants game too, Buds. So are you going to a sportsbar this sunday? We'll see you on I-10 in 2 weeks. Look out Waffle House!
[Got Sunday Ticket at the House with case and 1/2 in the fridge, I'm good! Although for one of the road games we may come join you at Woodrows. |

Woody's dissing y'all now? C'mon hey!
Time for the ticket at someone's house! I'd volunteer, except I'm in Austin and moving soon. |

I will not be able to make the Jets game due to work but I'll be going to the Giants game. I told the people that are taking my place to scream their heads off for me during this game. Its only one of my brothers, his gf and one of my cousins so two of them are going to their first Saints game in the dome.
I personally liked Tres when we went after the Texans preseason game, what do you think of there? |

I prefer "Brain-Center" Mike... c'mon, get politically correct! She wont leave me. I drive cool. Remember? Quote:
I Liked Trey's too. Lets give a little time for the rest of our Houston area friends to find us here again, now that the site's back up. And then we should all talk about it. I think we need to have a monday night party at my house too. Great picture of you and Tiff. |
Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
They are driving into New Orleans sometime Sunday morning (I have no idea when cause I'm not going) and then spending the night in Lafayette before they come back on Monday. I'm so pissed that I'm not going to this game but I know the boss wouldn't of given me 2 weekends off in a row so I had to pick the Giants game.

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
must -keep- eyes- open. back in Houston 1am.
All I can say is WTF! WTF! WITH CLOSING EVERY OTHER BACK STREET IN THE CBD? I missed one turn, and took 30 minutes to make a block, because traffic sucked, and every other street I needed to take was torn up and blocked with orange barrels. They're fixing Magazine St. and every other street in the CBD. I didnt know they were all broke. So, I worked my secret passageway out of N.O. yesterday, and it worked well, despite my 1 bad turn, & the rain all the way home. I felt more like Evel Knieval than Burt Reynolds, & my wife finally asked to drive at Winnie, Tx, because she was tired of "feeling like I'm gonna die." I dont know what she was talking about, because the car handled fine, and we could see well, except in Port Allen, and across the Basin Bridge, and whenever we passed an 18-wheeler with a rooster tail. Otherwise, perfectly comfortable, except when we hit that water thing in Lake Charles, and when the truck didnt see us. No probs at all, except those 2 dumbasses that were practically stopped in the road. Otherwise. . . smooth sailing. except.. . . So, hope to hear from my traveling Saints Fan brothers & sisters before the Giants game. I'm installing a CB Radio (seriously) this week, if I can figure it out. We're gonna have fun. Giants Game, Baby! Who else is marching down I-10 Oct. 17-18? |

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Good to hear you made it in one piece Mike, our group came back this morning. I'm off today resting because I spent yesterday morning in the ER with chest pains. I should be fine just the doc wants me to watch what I eat and try to handle stress better.
Oh I can't wait for the Giants game, I should be there. Where you want to tailgate at before the game? |

on am radio. Or maybe stop in Lafayette for some cajun food. There's a whole process for post Saints Game Loss healing. Of course, winning does create a completely different type ride home, esp. when the other drivers are waving flags and honking. Quote:
June, besides you'll feel better all the time if you follow doc's orders. I'm resting, recovering, and will figure out a Giants game weekend plan in a few days. I actually need a bye week right now. We will definitely catch you on the road to N.O. Gotta put in my CB radio--hahaha... I'm gonna feel like somebody on Dukes of Hazzard, playing with it down I-10. Mrs. C. is gonna get real tired of it, I can tell. ha! |

I dont even know how to talk on it now. I'll have to listen & learn whatever language they're speaking. Havent had one since the 70's. "Breaker One Nine Good Buddy, you got tha Macon Bacon peddling 18, How's it looking over your shoulder?" "Clean & Green Good Buddy, this is Beaver Cleaver, Smokey-Free all the way down to Astrodome City." They had one county mountie taking pictures northbound, but he had to go on a nature break on the flip flop." "Thats a Big 10-4, we are southbound with our britches down" "Keep your nose between the ditches & the bears out of your britches." "we gone- 10-10." I think I just made myself sick. |
Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Hell Yeah going to be in that number come Sunday afternoon, might be the last game I attend all year so me and the fiance are planning on loosing our voices.

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Heading out early Saturday morning.

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Here we go. I have a gig saturday night, so we're gonna spend the night in Breaux Bridge--wont get there till about 3am. Hopefully I wont run over any gators this time. Its all good. We'll be in our seats before kickoff.
I'm probably going to try my new backroad escape route from the Dome. Its actually longer distance-wise, but if I dont miss my entrance onto the CCC, I can get moving faster, get to Baton Rouge at a decent time, and not have to play bumper tag with the entire WB population of the Gulf Coast. We'll get hungry when we get back toward Lafayette, and you're all welcome to join us for a seafood victory dinner. Suggestions? Oh yeah, and my wife thinks I'm nuts, but I'm trying to install my CB this week. wooooo! |

Here's one for you guys....
We rented a truck and a semi to tow Travel down the long and divided road Look on the map I think we've been there before, Close up the doors, let's roll once more. Cop on the corner, look he's startin' to write I don't need no ticket so I screamed out of sight, Drove so fast that my eyes can't see, Look in the mirror, is he still followin' me? Let it roll down the highway Let it roll down the highway, Roll, roll. Look at the sign, we're in the wrong place Move out boys, let's get ready to race 454 coming over the hill The man on patrol is going to give us a bill. The time's real short, you know the distance is long I'd like to have a jet but it's not in the song Climb back in the cab, cross your fingers for luck We gotta keep movin' if we're going to make a buck. Let it roll down the highway, . . . |

If we get there early enough, Allegros sounds great. We're both short. I have no idea what I am doing with the CB but I'm getting excited. HEY FF. -- you couldnt have picked a cooler song. I never could understand a thing Fred Turner sings, but love listening. I think BTO was my 1st concert. |

Re: Saints Fans Gameday March down I-10
Man, I am gonna be so excited just to get on the Interstate tomorrow night. I wish I could drive all the way to N.O. after I get thru rocking my crowd at the gig tomorrow night. But the Lady says, "No, we're sleeping in Lafayette." Alright, maybe I'll be unwound by Lafayette. Which is ok, we can have boudin & eggs, and cross the Atchafalaya bridge in the morning. ("Born on tha Bayou-- Bowmp Bowmp Bowmp!)
I'm checking Tx and La. DOTs this evening, and will post any construction I know of scheduled on I-10. Lafayette Folks: Do yall know of any construction? Speed traps? I still prefer hwy 73 after Winnie, Tx --Pt. Arthur- Orange back to I-10 over that damn Wall O' Death between Beaumont & Orange. even thought that's where I ran over the gator last season. Its a straightaway from Winnie to P.A. and you could do 90 easily, but that would be illegal, so, of course, I wont endorse that--- just sayin. Going to get my CB antenna right now. dont know if its gonna work. Hou-Dats on the way --- GEAUX! |
