this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; The concern is with Drew Brees healthy we stand to have probably our most competitive season. If the unthinkable happens and we have to go to Brunell I believe the run is over. I'm thinking Garcia was released by Philly ...

Back up QB situation

I believe the run is over. I'm thinking Garcia was released by Philly why not bring him in. Garcia is a tough veteran who probably would gel with the O quickly. When he played for McNabb against us he was a handfull. The bottom line is Marks a great guy but worlds away from hanging with this O as a starter. |

Re: Back up QB situation
Garcia doesn't appear to have much left. He was very good a couple years ago but probably not so much now. Plus, you never really know which version you would get, the one who demonstrates good leadership or the one whining about everything.

Re: Back up QB situation
If something happened to... well i aint even gonna say it ... but if we had to bring in Brunell, I could also imagine seeing some wildcat formations that would include Lance, Reggie, Pierre, and Bell handling the ball in certain situations.
I suppose Garcia could be an option if it came to a point where Brunell just wasn't getting it done. Let's just hope we don't have to find out. |

I totally disagree... for the life of me I don't understand why the Raiders let him go because he far looked better in pre-season than Russel. I don't see him in a Saints uniform until the "knock on wood" incident happens.

Re: Back up QB situation
You know, I actually gave this topic some additional thought. Unfortunately, the chances of Brees going down is significantly greater than maybe years past. The Saints are dangerously thin at LT,and Brees has already taken some nasty shots. Maybe Garcia still has some left in him, he did post a better than 90 rating last year. So, maybe that statement I made about him not having much left is a little non sense. However, I still would be very nervous about his attitude, which has the potential to be extremely bad at times...

Brunell is enough of an NFL QB that he can manage the game when defenses put 8 or 9 in the box. This isn't the Saints offense of old. With Brunnel in it'll simply morph into the offense we saw last week: run the ball down your throat into you pull someone in to stop it, then throw over the top. Also play solid defense and special teams. Brunnel wouldn't come in to win games for the Saints. But now he doesn't have to.
And finally you simply cannot make that final assessment, because Drew Brees has taken each and every significant snap in this offense for the last 3 years. Brunnel wasn't here for the last game of 2006 against Carolina. And the last time I checked, that was the last non preseason game that Brees did not have significant action. IMHO this is not the time to become worrying Wandas. Everything is clicking. Enjoy the ride! SFIAH |

Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good. |

Re: Back up QB situation
Garcia asked to be let go because he saw that the Raiders were going to stick with Russel as the starter.

Brees has been getting tagged and this is a glaring weakness. I live in DC and have lived through the Brunell years with the Redskins. Trust me it will become a bad situation if Brunell has to go for any length of time. I'm not saying panic but be prepared. I do like what Williams has done with The D definitley major improvements. Believe me my weekly prayers include Drew to stay healthy. |

Re: Back up QB situation
I'll just stick with the hope that Brees stays healthy all the way to the Super Bowl this year!
