i agree that our defense looked much worse this week, BUT.....

i'm sure we can all agree that the D looked better against the jets than it did against the eagles, against the 49ers it looked like we tooka a big step backwrds

our secondary got picked apart due to lack of pass rush, could this be because Howard and Grant were both on the sideline?

both of our starting DE's whom people are saying are our best lineman on D were not playing, i know i'm playing the advocate and being normally optimistic but these two guys are supposed to be the cornerstone of our D and they weren't playing

We have been told many times in the offseson they built a deep team with more speed. If this is so then there should not be that much of a drop off in the level of play if one or two players are not in the game.

This team is in trouble.

I think the corners are looking so bad b.c we are getting no pass rush, i mean you give any quarterback enough time and they will look like joe montana, maybe the saints. I\'m not ready to panic quite yet, but getting a little worried..I still think if the defense can be a middle of the pack defense with our explosive offense this team can do some damage in the playoffs

There is a BIG difference b/w corners getting beat a few extra times when the QB has 5 or 6 seconds to throw the ball b/c there is no pass rush and allowing three quarterbacks to go 22-25 for nearly 300 yards and a TD. This defense is BAD. Yes, they will play better come week 1, but they are a BAD defense and they will end up being a bottom five or ten defense again. That\'s my prediction. Again, let me say I hope I am wrong, it just doesn\'t seem that way right now.

Associated Press

SAN FRANCISCO -- After having a day to think about it, the San Francisco 49ers aren\'t sure Eric Johnson\'s collarbone was broken by a clean hit after all.

The 49ers have asked the NFL to review New Orleans Saints cornerback Dale Carter\'s hit on Johnson on the first play from scrimmage in San Francisco\'s exhibition victory Saturday night.

Johnson, the 49ers\' starting tight end, broke his collarbone and got a concussion when Carter leveled him with an apparent helmet-first hit after Johnson caught a 1-yard pass from Jeff Garcia.

Johnson will be out 10 to 12 weeks and could be placed on injured reserve -- but after the game, general manager Terry Donahue and other players said they thought the hit was legal.

On Sunday night, coach Dennis Erickson wasn\'t so sure.

\"I think that\'s something the league is going to have to look at,\'\' Erickson said. \"Eric didn\'t see him, but Eric had the ball four or five steps before he got hit. ... It was a freak thing. There was nobody covering the wide receiver running down the field.\'\'

The 49ers are enduring their share of injury problems during Erickson\'s first preseason with the team, but he has been coaching football long enough to give him perspective on it all.

I have heard about this. Dale was just making a statement and it\'s unfortunate that a bone got broken in the process, but it was a clean hit.

If the league does fine Dale Carter then I think they are going overboard with trying to protect players. The guy was a tightend-Not a QB. And I don\'t agree with all the BS rules that protect the QB.
