Some hope.......
Well after reading everyone's posts about last nights game I thought I'd put in my 2 cents worth.
No the boys in Black and Gold didn't look like they'll win the Super Bowl, maybe not ever the NFC South. They did however show something I think was a very real positive. If any team out there thought this team can't hit, they have another think coming. I'm not talking about just Carters hit, there were plenty of good hits in this game. I agree with some of you that Howard and Grant hurt to some degree but the way Kenny Smith filled in I'm not sure either one of them could have done better. I think for the first time this season we really got a good look at Tebucky's speed. Yes the safetys were out of position at times but that is something that can and I believe will be worked out. As some of you said the corners were not at the right place at the right time. This too is true. However if it were me, and this late in the pre-season, I'd rather have 2 experienced corners getting it together than 2 rookies without a clue. That's about as optimistic about the corner play as I can be. Linebackers... Boy is it a shame Cie Grant has been hurt this pre-season? Did you see the speed this guy has? In all honesty I believe our linebackers aren't as bad as even I thought. Darren did a good job last night while he was in the game. I think Rodgers is a sound pickup. The "D" line, Gravy showed that he wants to play the game and Kenny Smith did more than I thought he could do. I still hope that he can do that for a complete game. So here's the last thing about the defense I have to say. It's a damn good thing we don't play anyone in our division till the 5th game. We hit Carolina at game 5 with Atlanta,Carolina and Tampa Bay at 7,8 and 9. Maybe by then our defense will have gelled and we won't be to far behind Tampa to catch up. On the Offense, not really to much to say except, for having been in camp only a few days I think Ki-jana Carter did an admirable job. He did miss some blocks but it looked to me like he might still want to play. He at least looked better than what we've seen so far. Deuce was Deuce. Nothing needs to be said about him. AB for what he had didn't do all that bad and there is one glareing statistic that will bear that out. 5 count em folks 5 sacks. At times the "O" line couldn't block me. Far to many missed assignments and way to many penalties. Yes he'd have done better if some of his receivers had hands attached to their feet but all in all he did ok. I just think he needs to do more than ok to deserve his money. Now if that's bashing AB at least it's done in a nice way. :) I'm not ready to throw the towel in just yet, I like so many of you have my concerns about the team but at least we have till week 5 to work out some of the kinks so we can win the NFC South and go to the big dance. |
