All I can say is all those who welcome back the turncoat must not have been around when all this crap happened. It is beyond me how one person can cause so much chaos in an organization and still be welcome by the fans...just beyond me.

It is interesting to point out, though, that while Fourcade was finishing the season that Bobby was benched, he won the last three games on the schedule while beating a tough Philly team and a tough Buffalo team, Jim Kelly and all, in Buffalo...and in doing so won a $50K incentive bonus for Hebert. Hebert had a clause that said if the Saints won 10 games he would get the extra lettuce.

Well, I was around when all of that happened, and I would like to ask you, what exactly is it that Bobby did to the franchise?
Did he bench himself?
Did he come up and/or approved the trade for Walsh?
Did he bring in Wade Wilson?
Was he coaching the Saints in 1992-1993?
If Fourcade was that good of a QB that "he" won the last 3 games of the 1989 season against tough teams, was Bobby's idea to release Fourcade and bring in the aforementioned Walsh?
Why didn't Fourcade start in 1990? Did Bobby made that decision?

After all, Bobby was benched, right? He didn't bench himself. It was the coach's decision to bench him with the blessing of the FO. So how could a player who "obviously" wasn't good enough to play for the team in 1989 create all of this turmoil in 1990-1991-1992-1993?

No Sir. You can resent Bobby for holding out, but you need to resent Jim Finks as well for mis-managing the entire affair.

He didn't handle the benching like a man.

What I was wondering, from the very beginning, though, is it the fact that Bobby was from Louisiana and Favre is not from Wisconsin (sorry, DIU, I'll never talk about him in another one of your threads...and I'm not trying to be, well, you know), or will this thing eventually blow over and some day Favre will be sitting in the booth at Lambeau field doing GB games?

Favre isn't from Wisconsin like you mentioned and didn't play college ball there either. But I would bet that after his football career he could do whatever he wanted in there and he would be welcomed.

Oh, well, that sure explains it, doesn't it?

Jim Finks and Jim Mora Sr f*ed things up royally handling the situation, but they f*ed things up royally like real men...got it.

So...I'm guessing from your comment that you don't believe Bobby deserved to be benched in the first place? That would be a valid arguement, IMO.

Whether Bobby deserved to be benched or not, the entire situation was totally mis-handled by the coach and the FO.

To me, this is what it boils to:

In the eyes of the coaching staff and the FO, was Hebert the best option at QB for the Saints?

If he was, and benched him for reasons other than his play, then the coach and the FO screwed things up from the get-go, Hebert should not have been benched, and Hebert should've gotten paid. One thing is for a starter to have a bad game, and the coach sitting him that game, another thing is making a starting QB change. Once you do that, you are telling that QB and everyone else he's not good enough to be your QB. And if he's not good enough to be your QB, what do you care as a coach or FO if he sits out a year or not?

If he wasn't, the team should've cut ties right there and then at the end of the 1989 season. Again,if he's not good enough, why would the coach of FO care if he's even on the team? And definitely they should have not given Dallas all those picks for Walsh, or plain bring in Walsh for that matter. And most definitely should not have brought Hebert back in 1991 and admit they were wrong.

So for me, whatever Bobby did for whatever reasons he did it, it does not compare to the royal screw up of the coaching staff and Front Office in handling the situation.

..and for the record,I didn't think Bobby deserved to be benched at the time.

I missed listening to WWL yesterday. Anyone know if this dance was brought up?

Time cures all ills. Deep down Bobby has proven that he's one of us.

Finks screwed up the deal. Bobby acted like a man and got a better deal in Atlanta. I welcomed playing him when he was with Atlanta.

Bobby is a Who Dat through and through. He's forgiven by me. Joe Horn too!
