Saints have never won after bye week under Payton
With an impressive 4-0 record, the New Orleans Saints are one of only five remaining unbeaten teams in the NFL — and they’re going to remain that way for at least one more week.
Thanks to their 24-10 triumph over the New York Jets on Sunday, the high-flying Saints headed into their bye week with a lot of confidence after that victory came on the heels of wins over Detroit, Philadelphia and Buffalo. On Tuesday, the Saints got another dose of good news when coach Sean Payton rewarded them for their strong start. Payton, who had planned to have his team practice on Tuesday and Wednesday, gave them an extra recovery day following meetings on Tuesday. That gave them a much-appreciated five-day respite from Wednesday to Sunday before they return to work Monday to begin preparing for their next game — an Oct. 18 meeting in the Superdome with the Giants, who are also 4-0 going into this week’s game with Oakland. So while a 4-0 record doesn’t guarantee anything when it comes to the postseason, it did earn them an extra day off. The Saints have never won a game after a bye in the regular season since Payton arrived in 2006 although they did win an NFC Divisional Playoff game after earning a first-round playoff bye that season. “I’m sure you guys are going to bring up next week that our record has not been very good the week after a bye,” a smiling Drew Brees said in looking ahead to the days off. “So we figured we would try something new. If you want to change the results, you’ve got to change the process a little bit.” Brees noted it’s unusual to have bonus days off under Payton, who even worked his team last year after they returned from a 10-day road trip to Charlotte, N.C., and London. Of course, they were 4-4 then. Record Output The Saints, who have the most yards from scrimmage in the NFL since Sean Payton became their coach in 2006, surpassed the 20,000-yard mark for the Payton era in a 24-10 win against the New York Jets on Sunday. With 343 total yards against the Jets, the Saints now have 20,272 yards from scrimmage in 52 regular-season games with Payton calling the plays. That’s an average of 389.8 yards a game. Sharper Honored Saints free safety Darren Sharper was named NFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the victory over the Jets. Sharper, 33, intercepted a pair of passes and added a team-high eight tackles. The 13-year veteran returned his first interception a club-record 99 yards for a touchdown on the first play of the second quarter. The two picks moved Sharper into ninth place on the league’s all-time list with 59. Saints have never won after bye week under Payton | thenewsstar.com | The News Star |

We're 1-3.
We lost to Baltimore (Brees runs for his life), Carolina (Mare missed a 20 yarder and a 54 yarder), and @Atlanta (Brees 3 ints for 127 yards, after the London Game). |

It will be both teams' toughest game, but i believe we can win it. Not just because i'm a fan but because how how we match up with Giants. Their D line is their strength. If we can get the ball past the first level consistently, then I say we win.

Time for a change in that trend though. I too think this is the right time to get the Giants. Payton needs to make sure we come out fast and show no bye week hangover.
