Possible trade ideas.

Shawn Merrimen is in the trading block.. i think the saints should trade for him! maybe a 2nd and 3rd round pick? and glen dorsey is in the trading block maybe a possible trade? what do you guys think? or theres is also derrick johnson LB from chiefs as well another trade.. just an idea. what do you think?

Re: Possible trade ideas.

Shawn Merrimen, has not been the same player he once was. I'll pass.

Glen Dorsey, there was a reason the Saints didn't draft him.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

hmmm but the saints have a nak of making struggling players into stars, bell for instance. but yeah maybe it might not be worth it who knowss.. and dorsey.. yeah i guess you have a point otherwise they wouldnt have drafted ellis..

MatthewT 10-13-2009 09:40 PM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

Dorsey was actually drafted two picks higher than Ellis, the Saints did not have enough ammo to get up higher. If they could have gotten up higher, most believe Dorsey would have been the pick. Nice how things turned out...

jn671 10-13-2009 09:47 PM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

yeah. i love ellis.. i just thoguht he would need a partner such as dorsey beside him..

MatthewT 10-13-2009 10:01 PM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

I will tell you this, for the right price I would not hesitate on pulling the trigger in a trade for Dorsey. Not too sure what KC would want at this point, and also not too sure how that would play into the salary cap. Still would be something nice to think about...

Re: Possible trade ideas.

maybe a 4 and 5th round pick and one of our reserve tackes. but definetly not hargrove.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

As long as the trades happen AFTER this season. No need in disrupting the team chemistry right now.

jn671 10-13-2009 10:15 PM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

hmm that could work.. but for some reason i still beleive merrimen will make up for his plays. he would be a killer DE or olb for us.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

D. Johnson would flourish in GW's scheme. Throw in getting out of KC and the Saints could have a future star alongside Vilma.

yuppp i would like him in the team.. yet i like shanle and fujita as well.. always respected fujita. shanle im starting to respect alittle more..

i couldn't agree more.

i dunno about merriman...i say he's a wash though. johnson would be nice :)

Re: Possible trade ideas.

Merriman hasn't been the same since the steroid bust/knee injury so I'd pass on him. Now Doresy or Johnson would be interesting just depends on what KC would want in return

Crusader 10-14-2009 01:37 AM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

I'd jump on Dorsey in a heartbeat. Yes he doesn't look good in KC but he was an absolute beast in college. Last year our DL looked horrendus, this yea they look good. I think GW could do that for Dorsey too. Merriman i would not even touch with gloves on my hands.

CantonLegend 10-14-2009 04:37 AM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

We wouldnt be getting anything we dont already have if we traded for dorsey.....i know the LSU fans are still pulling for him but ellis is better, clancy is bigger, and hargrove is faster

we have our pass rushing and run stopping DTs and dorsey wouldnt play over any of them

shawne merriman is a pass rushing 3-4 OLB, he isnt good at much of anything else and because of that, he isnt worth anything to us

he cant drop back in coverage and dont ask him to contain anything on the outside because he moves right in after the QB.....like i said, good pass rusher, poor everything else

Dwayne Bowe would be a nice addition to the WRs since meachem still isnt stepping up and lance moore has been hurt......bowe would give us enough talent and health to drop harper and roby

tyson jackson might be a possibility as another DT but i wouldnt even look at glenn dorsey right now

Trade? we talking trades? gotta be kidding. If anything I want us to trade and get Picks. That should be no surprise to anyone here. Hmm who to trade?

Well ...the obvious Bush ... he is ever so disruptive and productive!

Could very well happen.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

Dorsey would be a great product for gw's scheme yet I agree with hving hargrove and Clancy. But I also think that trading for picks would be a good idea as well. So I'm caught in tge middle with everyone output. Lol.. Anywys you guts are right about Shawn merrimen so I rest my Case on that idea but ithink we should get Derrick Johnson. Doesn't GW run the 4-4 and 3-4 at times? If he does we can move shanle next to vilma In the middlecayse I think he's versatile enough an derreck play shanles spot. What do you think?

Why isn't Dorsey doing any better in KC?

I'd rather us not trade - it'd be nice for the Saints to have a full set of draft picks to work with next year.

Merriman the juicer?

No thanks!

Dorsey is not exactly burning it up either.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

yeah merriman is most likely washed up........but didn't alot of people think the same about bell??? maybe he needs a change of scenery.....man would be great to see lights out in a Saints Jersey (if he was productive)

yeah, but, at what cost? why tinker w/ something that doesnt need to be tinkered w/?

its like my 4-1 fantasy football team. i keep thinking up trades and then deciding against it because i'm in first place. why mess up a good thing?

continuity is very important......but we are lacking depth at offensive line right now......we are lacking depth at TE

adding a player for a draft pick would keep our current team in tact and also add another player who could be worked in slowly to catch up

continuity only gets you so far, talent needs to be a major factor in evaluating how far a team will get into the playoffs

Re: Possible trade ideas.

A Dorsey and Johnson in one hand is better than two in a (BUSH)

Give meachem credit. He has played into his role as #3 or #4 reciever and makes plays when the ball is thrown his way. Drew going to him in crunch time on 3rd down on the game clinching drive against the Jets should tell you alot about this guy.

I do think Dwayne Bowe is a heck of a reciever however. I just don't think he'd be worth the price that will likely come with him considering how potent our offense is now.

Overall, if the saints are to trade for anyone, they should seek depth at offensive line. Not just 2nd string linemen, but proven NFL starters so that our line will continue to improve andplay with a fire on their ass.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

Wow Frederick- You just gave me an idea. How about we send Bush and maybe a draft pick to KC for Dorsey and Johnson? Now, I do know for many reasons this trade would never fly, but it's still fun to think about...(KC would never go for it... LMAO).

lumm0x 10-14-2009 09:27 PM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

The only name that appeals to me would be Johnson at LBer. I agree it would be fruitless right now as he would not have time to learn the defense, it would disrupt our current chemistry and it's just not the right time. I think we are one more dominant defensive player away from being a top 5 defense though.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

i wouldn't trade any draft picks, maybe swap players. if that would work out fine. lol

Doresy looks lost in KC ... thank god the Chiefs asking price was insane, goes to show you that sometimes the best draft day deals are the one's that aren't made

I agree that we can always get better, and we are lacking offensive line depth, but none of the players mentioned play any of those positions. The defense is as solid as it has been in years. Why mess up that chemistry now with bringing in any of those players mid-season? If health was an issue, then I'd say pull the trigger. It's not, though.

Re: Possible trade ideas.

yeah come to think of it we desperately need a LT.

jeanpierre 10-15-2009 02:39 AM

Re: Possible trade ideas.

We need defensive linemen depth...

Some linebacking depth...

And some offensive line depth...

Merriman has a neaux geaux knee (degenerative more than normal for NFL'er) from what I've read while he missed last season...

I'd love to get another impact defensive lineman...

Read reports that Jevon Kearse may be on the block; but he's a situational pass rusher at best it seems...

Buffalo has some defensive lineman and they may already be sellers...

Payton & Co has a way of taking undrafted, cast off players and maximizing their potential...

But I'd sure like to have some defensive help...
