Game Balls
It is obvious that Drew Brees has come back big time and Marques Colston had a blockbuster but you know, there are two players that stood out for me in a sea of stars and one of them you may not even think about. My first plaudits will go to Jermon Bushrod. I don't think I have ever seen such a dominating display against such premier defensive linemen. He protected Drew's blindside like I have never seen, and he's is supposed to be our backup! But for me the guy who changed the game without any hope of award was Thomas Morestead. Yes folks. I have selected a punted as one of our valuable players. In the first half, I firmly believe that our punter stopped two touchdowns and changed the face of the game. My hat is off to you, T. Morestead and I hope that you are mentioned more than just for your punting.

Re: Game Balls
Jermon Bushrod, Thomas Morestead, The O - Line, the Defense.
|
Re: Game Balls
Drew Brees because he's the Captain of this cruise ship, Reggie Bush for not trying to outplay his responsibility and coach for calling a damn good game.
|
Re: Game Balls
Yes Gup. Moorstead did his job. But my hat goes off to the offensive and defensive lines. Drew made good throws, WR"s made good catches and RB's mad good runs, but our lines controlled the game.
We finally have a legit team. |
Re: Game Balls
I think it was 3 total hits on Brees all game... great job by our offensive line. If there were any doubts about of LT situation, this should help ease doubts on whether we can be good enough to survive w/o Brown. Our offense made their defense look JV out there... it was Oakland all over again except this game counts.

In a game of this magnitude, with so many exceptional plays, I just find it odd someone would point out the kicker simply getting in the way on one return, and a drag down tackle on another. Sorry, but Morstead is about 16th or 17th on my list of players deserving gameballs in this whoopin'. He made no difference at all. |
Re: Game Balls
I thought it was very classy of the team to give the game ball to Adam Zimmer, a defensive assistant and son of Mike Zimmer, who lost his mom this week.
Actually player game balls for me: O- Brees. He did everything for us to win. D- all as a unit. No one player stood out more than the rest. ST- Morstead |
Re: Game Balls
Shockey, Moore, and COLSTON. Outstanding, simply outstanding!
|
Re: Game Balls
I don't disagree with the O-line, but you gotta give a game ball to Roman Harper. He stripped Eli for the first turnover and put the pressure on him later to force the bad throw that Greer picked off.
|
Re: Game Balls
I think the whole offense and defense should get game balls but Danno, I think you're being a little harsh on Morestead. It is actually rare you see a punter bring down a returner and as for just 'getting in the way'? I believe he did more than that. The out come of those plays would have been touchdowns and the whole momentum of the game could well have been changed. So I think his plays had more importance than you give him credit for. Come on, kickers are people too.

Re: Game Balls
Greer and Porter. It's so great to see CB's making plays.

Re: Game Balls
Morstead for Mayor!!!

4 punts averager was 45. 0 yards with a long of 58. I am still looking up the returns or Net. the hang time was excellent. coverage units were ther in plenty of time. The guy was great yesterday. He pinned the gaints deep each time. He did everything he could to keep the field position battle in our favor. Oh yeah one touch back and he missed by "That much" what more do you want the guy to do. I guess us old timers see the value in a kicker more than some of you young bucs. For years that was all we had. the NFLs best special team play. That is it. I saw him have the best game as a pro yet. I am happy with the pick and had my crow for dinner. |
Re: Game Balls
Game ball goes to all of you in the dome. Eli was rattled and never seemed comfortable in the huddle or behind center because the crowd noise was just way to much! Every anlyst has given props to all of you in the dome and have mentioned that the Saints may be unstoppable in that Dome. It really has become a SUPER dome once again!

Re: Game Balls
It was a great team victory, but I'll pick one - my game ball goes to my pre-game prediction Saints success key: Lance Moore. Its a different kind of offense with him healthy and gutting the middle of defenses...everything else fell into place. Can't say enough about his hands, his routes, his adjustments, and his high traffic skills. Brees counts on him and then the edges come open. He is at the top of my list to overlay Duece.

Re: Game Balls
On offense, Colston, Moore, Bushrod all deserve recognition. I think
Jamaal will have to win his job back! On defense, everyone played at least good. Harper and Greer stood out a little. I noticed Porter was usually in good position, and I like the way he hits. Aside from Morstead, out ST weren't so great. We missed an extra point, had no long punt or kick returns, and allowed some long punt and kick returns. No game ball to Brees. Brees don't get game balls, he gives them. |
Re: Game Balls
Besides the obvious (Brees, Colston, Morstead, etc).
I tought Jabari Greer was lights out. |
Re: Game Balls
Greer has unbelieveable closing speed. There were a couple of plays on the long balls where he was 2 steps behind the receiver while the ball was in the air but when the ball got to the receiver he was right there to knock it away.

Re: Game Balls
In preseason I wondered how well Bushrod would protect Drews blindside. He has definitely been up to the challenge even when battling his own leg problems. The Oline is not allowing much pressure and is opening holes. Defense was solid although no one stood out except maybe Harper and Greer. Morestead is doing his job and a little more. We brought him here for his hang time and the placement of his punts...his kickoffs are lagniappe. He has played rugby and isn't afraid to mix it up on coverage and deserves honorable mention, but not necessarily a game ball.
