Predicting Defenses !!

Predicting Defenses In 2001, Carolina's defensive ranking was 31st in yards and 28th in points (410). In 2002, the Carolina defense ranked second in yards and fifth in points (302). How is it possible for two people (new head coach John Fox and pass rusher Julius Peppers) to make that much difference? They had 26 sacks in 2001 and 52 in 2002. This shows you sacks are very important. Of the 10 teams who had 40 or more sacks last season, seven made the playoffs. A big key for a defensive team is if its teammates on offense can successfully run the ball. Nine of the 12 playoff teams from last season held the ball over 30 minutes per game during the season. |

Predicting Defenses !!
Billy, you made me have tunnel vision. Its called good coaching!
How could he revamp a defense from one of the worse to one of the best in one year while the saints defense has only gone in reverse? I don\'t recall Carolina having a very good offense last year but their defense was still tops. However, I do think having an offense that controls the clock helps the defense tremendously. Why are the saints so happy to settle for a quick strike offense and special teams unit that will only put the defense on the field most of the game? Answer: POOR COACHING and POOR PLANNING. Why not use the talent on offense to move the ball 5-10 yds a play and decimate the opposing defense mentaly and physically, while at the same time not give their offense time to get into any rythym. wow what a thought. Sounds kinda like what opposing teams did to the saints last year. |
