The Saints are a different team with Lance Moore in the lineup.
After undergoing shoulder surgery in April that limited his offseason work, he hurt his hamstring in the preseason and re-aggravated the injury against the Philadelphia Eagles in week 2. As a result, he had only three catches for 38 yards before New Orleans played the New York Giants yesterday. Close to full strength for the first time, he busted out with six receptions for 78 yards and a touchdown as the Saints destroyed the top-ranked defense in the NFL. That was the same Moore who led New Orleans in catches (79) receiving yards (928) and touchdowns (10) a year ago. He talked about his health and the significance of the dominating 48-27 win after the game. Was this a statement game? “It’s only week 6. I guess you could say that, but at the end of the day we’ve got another game next and they’ve got another game next week, and last time I checked, nobody made the playoffs in week 6. We’ll see what happens after this.” How nice does it feel to finally be close to 100 percent health-wise? “It felt awesome. It’s been a long time. That’s all I can say. It’s been awesome. Hopefully I’ll keep getting more healthy and keep getting better.” What was the difference in the way you were able to play today as compared to the previous weeks? “I feel better physically. It’s hard to play when you don’t feel 100 percent. Part of my game is running obviously, and when you have a hamstring (injury), it’s tough for that. This feels good.” When did you know you would finally be able to play like you did last year? “I felt good before the game. It’s definitely the best I’ve felt in a number of weeks. Just to catch a couple of balls feels good obviously. I’ve just got to find a way to keep it going.” On the first possession of the game, a ball went right through (Giants cornerback) Corey Webster’s hands and you maintained the concentration to bring it in for a big third-down conversion. Talk about that play. “It was a big play. It was a great job by the offensive line and a great job by Drew (Brees) to be able to get it through there. The ball just happened to pop into my hands.” How confident is this offense when everyone is healthy?... Are you the best team in the league?... |
