Re: Run D
GW will have us playing the gaps. Everyone should understand his responsibilities( which is the beauty of his coaching) and make sure that we follow our assignments. As someone said earlier in another thread...Discipline, discipline, discipline.

Re: Run D
Should be a good game in the trenches, this game will come down to who wins time of possession and turnovers

Re: Run D
Miami will put up some rushing yards on Sunday. The question is will it be enough to keep Brees from lighting up the scoreboard. I think not.

Re: Run D
we dont have to hold gaps against this run.....we just have to blitz the power play
stopping the power makes them have to run the end around.....by running the end around we have limited them to sweeps and passing as far as their run defense is concerned, they are ranked so highly partly because of their terrible pass defense......we had the same thing happen a few years back.....teams didnt need to run the ball because we gave up so much yardage through the air.......miami will be able to stop our run for awhile but our passing will light them up and it will open up the ground for us as well |

Re: Run D
Our run defense has been the most consistent part of our D. Even last year we did well. We had almost no sacks or QB pressure and we gave up the house through the air, but we were able to shutdown some real RB talent. None of the elites had good days against us and it looks like we've improved this year. If we are able to stack it up and make them go outside the tackles for run yards, we'll be fine. We can not allow their backs to quick-hit the secondary through the tackles. Those are the runs that take a toll on the linebackers, safeties and corners. Enough of those 8-12 yard breakouts and the coverage begins to get sloppy. All of those run tackle collisions will leave them 1/2 steps behind the receivers...soon they'll be breaking on the ball a 1/2 step slow...start biting on stupid pump fakes because of exhaustion. A safety or corner with 7 tackles and 4 assists has gone way beyond the call of duty and should be given a raise. That's the kind of thing that'll make a 5'11' 198 SS/corner get in the face of 295lb DT and ask him why he's not doing his job. You'll never see that in the stats. Late into the 3rd, db's and corners don't even take the lick anymore, they just fall at the big-backs feet and hope he stumbles and falls (like Deion use to do). DB's should not be carring the lions share of the run stop action. Stopping the run calls for us to stop the middle run. You can't live or survive in the nfl turning the corner, that gives our little guys the advantage.
