Granted, most of you are correct; it was a very winnable game, but I think that the point of the article was that Brees sounded awfully cocky. There SHOULD have been doubt when you're down by 21 and were getting pretty much manhandled for much of the first half.
The football gods don't appreciate hubris, and Brees' assuredness, coupled with Bush stating that this team could go 16-0, is asking for trouble, especially when you add in the cover of SI jinx.

But you KNOW they're all thinking it, and so am I. This could be magical... but let's not flaunt it!
