The Saints will bring back undrafted rookie tailback Herb Donaldson to their practice squad today to replace tailback P.J. Hill, who was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles' active roster on Wednesday, General Manager Mickey Loomis said.
Both Hill and Donaldson showed impressive potential during the offseason after signing with the Saints as undrafted free agents in April. But they were buried behind a deep backfield that includes Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell and Lynell Hamilton. They chose Hill for their practice squad, but the Eagles plucked him away Wednesday to help fill in while veteran tailback Brian Westbrook is out with a concussion. Donaldson, from Western Illinois, ran for 64 yards and one touchdown on 19 carries during the preseason. The Saints did not announce any other roster moves Wednesday, while players had the day off. The Saints have pushed back their usual schedule by one day this week in preparation for Monday night's game against Atlanta at the Superdome. They'll return to work this morning. Re: Saints Bring Back RB Donaldson
Both of those backs have about the same potential from what I can tell. Donaldson played fairly well in preseason as far as I can remember.

Re: Saints Bring Back RB Donaldson
I actually preferred herb as a runner. Maybe Hill is more versatile?

Re: Saints Bring Back Runningback Herb Donaldson
They looked very similar in the games I saw. It was probably close to a toss-up deciding which one to sign to the PS.
I expect we'll hear about Pressley soon. Although I read Hartley has a sprained ankle so Carney may get a 1-week pardon. |
