Re: 8-0 for the first time!
No matter how much everyone appreciates coming out the other end of a game with a "W", it's crazy talk to not recognize that our play has been ugly and undisciplined. I may be "spoiled" but the regular season is just about getting into the playoffs to me. The only game that matter in the regular season relate directly to that proposition.
Each individual playoff game matters, and you don't win many playing the way we've been playing. We have to get our play cleaned up. We can win it all if we play disciplined football. We're not doing right now, and really haven't been for a good while - it all started in Buffalo. Considering what we're capable of, we should be winning with a comfortable margin and in control of the game throughout. Instead we're scrabbling, scratching and clawing down to the last second. I'm happy about being 8-0. That doesn't mean I can't see what's right in front of me. |

Ugly last minute wins will always be part of winning records... some on comebacks because they played awful the first 3 quarters, some because opposing teams missed field goals, some on lucky bounces of the ball... The way I see it, it doesn't get any uglier than the 2000 Ravens, a team who in the 2000 regular season went 5 games without scoring a TD - and won 4 of those! - and ended up winning the SB. Are you going to be disappointed if the Saints win ugly the SB ? Also, this is not the team that started the 2009 season. They are missing 6 key starters, 7 if Jabari sits next week. Don't you think the absence of Lance Moore and Heath Evans and Jammal Brown is affecting the play of the offense? Don't you think the absence of Kendric Clancy and Sedric Ellis and Scott Fujita affects the play of the defense? Of course it does. But unlike other years, this team is finding ways to overcome them. Why don't you want to give credit to the team for overcoming those injuries and finding ways to win? And BTW, the other team has 11 people on the field as well.. they are bound to make a play or 2 once in a while. Finally, yes, each playoff game matters. BUT, to get to the playoffs, you have to win games in the regular season and, last time I checked, there's no tie breaker or seeding based on pretty wins. |
