Saints not expected to cut ties with Brown
Third-year veteran Jermon Bushrod is doing a nice job filling in for the injured Jammal Brown at left tackle, but sources expect the Saints to push to re-sign Brown when he becomes a free agent this offseason. Brown, who will be a restricted free agent barring a breakthrough in Collective Bargaining Agreement negotiations, was placed on injured reserve before suiting up for a game following two surgeries. Bushrod has held his own in seven starts, but observers say he's not playing at Brown's level yet. There had been talk that Brown was overrated in recent years. However, sources say some in New Orleans have a new appreciation for him after watching the offensive line without him for the first extended period since he entered the league in 2005. With Bushrod developing, the Saints will avoid giving a long-term deal to Brown, but issuing him a high one-year tender is a good possibility.

Re: Saints not expected to cut ties with Brown
Bushrod stays at LT keep Brown and move him to RT and Stinchcomb and Strief will be excellent back ups

Brown @ LT >>> Bushrod.
Brown is probably top 10 in the league. |

brown can be left alone with the DE and give up the occassional penalty or the rare sack while bushrod needs help a lot which takes away from the help we could offer the rest of the line and the DEs still make plays but we dont get holding penalties sure statistically bushrod is doing fine......but impact on the game, bushrod is leaving a lot to be desired |

Re: Saints not expected to cut ties with Brown
I am no fan of Bushrod's play, but he has been a lot better than I'd thought he'd be. The guy had ZERO snaps before this year. None. To think of the success we are having with our O-line is amazing. Other than Evans, are any of them in the top half of the league at their positions?
If nothing else, we have a plan B. I wouldn't say leverage, because Brown can just go elsewhere, but a good plan B |

Brown is solid at best at this point of his career. Throw in chronic knee problems, hip surgery, and wanting a new contract. Bushrod is my choice.

Please, do not think Brown (with no help) = Bushrod (with help) Brown >>> Bushrod. And it isn't even close. Canton is 100% dead on accurate about this, IMO. I'm just OK with Bushrod, because he's adequate and I think he'll get better, but I'll take our all-pro Jammal Brown over Jermon Bushrod all week long. |
