Payton says Porter has a sprained MCL -Thank You Football gods

Saints head coach Sean Payton said that cornerback Tracy Porter does not have a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will not need surgery, despite some reports to the contrary.

Payton said there is no question they expect Porter back in the lineup this season, though a timetable is not set.

“I feel real good for him,” said Payton.

“It’s a strained MCL and there will be a time where he’ll have to rehab and recover.”

Porter was injured when he was accidentally leg-whipped by Usama Young during a pass play.

How is that good news? He'll be out of practice and out of shape. Might as well be on IR.

There's not a snowballs chance in hell he goes on IR. Zero, Zilch, Nada, None. I'll take Porter at 80% over anyone else we have at 100%

hmmm... let's see...

he didn't tear a ligament, therefore he can come back healthy in 4-6 weeks,
vs.
he tore a ligament, now he needs knee surgery, 9 months of rehab, and there's a chance he will not be the same player he was before the tear.

... hmmm...I don't know.. tough call...

Re: Payton says Porter has a sprained MCL...thank you football gods

Excellent time to give Malcolm Jenkins some experience. Mckenzie wouldn't be a terrible, though I think Jenkins has more upside. Right now we are 3 games ahead of Dallas/Arizona for a first round bye with 7 games to go. 1 game ahead of Minnesota for home field advantage. If the Vikings went perfect from here on out I'd be completely shocked. The injuries are bad, and yes adjustments need to be made, but being 9-0 affords us the opportunity to try some things that we wouldn't normally do. I mean yes, home-field advantage would be amazingly awesome, so going perfect would be extremely nice, but we have some lead-way to work some things out.

Re: Payton says Porter has a sprained MCL...thank you football gods

Glad it is not more serious but it is still a blow and because Usama was the one who caused the injury is even worse. Blank Happens. Part of the reason this team was so successful was our secondary and Gay is not a Greer and was exposed yesterday. We got a lot more problems now and if Sharper and Greer do not make it back soon we are going to lose some games right quick. Above all else what is going on with Brees? He just does not look sharp to me.

At least we aren't going to see Joey "Thanks Saints for extending my career by 5 years" Galloway next week with a depleted secondary. When is Sharper returning???

When a team gives an estimated time of injury recovery they factor everything in, including the time to get back on the field in shape. They wouldn't say someone would be ready in 6 weeks when they aren't gonna be ready or at least expect them to. He still has two arms and a leg. He'll be back on his feet moving fluidly in a few weeks. They hire the training staff for a reason.

Brees looks just fine to me. Those two picks were Shockey's fault. Both of them.

stockman311 11-16-2009 12:35 PM

Re: Payton says Porter has a sprained MCL...thank you football gods

And how does Brees look if Colston doesn't idiotically try and leap into the end zone instead of just barrelling his way in on a smaller defender? I guess he thinks since Reggie is allowed to do it, he should be allowed to do it as well.

All we have to do is wave the magic wand and wish that he were not injured.

Porter has played enough games to be considered a veteran CB now. Let him sit until the final game of the season, let him get some reps then, and give him another week to rest in the bye. He'll be ready to play in the playoffs.

New Orleans Saints say cornerback Tracy Porter has sprained MCL | New Orleans Saints Central - - NOLA.com

this is good news and I'm not complaining but the down side to this is now we don't have a roster spot open
so now what?

Re: Payton says Porter has a sprained MCL...thank you football gods

He just goes on inactive list and Torrence goes active for 4 to 6 weeks.

Re: Payton says Porter has a sprained MCL...thank you football gods

A lot of other injuries in the NFL yesterday, including Panthers OT Gross out for the season. No need to do anything rash - we have 9 wins. Just mix in Jenkins and Torrence, they need more game experience. Jenkins has been okay he just needs to watch the illegal contact.

Maybe sign another CB for depth purposes who has some upside. I'm not an advocate of signing McKenzie unless he is healthy and in good enough shape to play like the old M.M.

Saints still have 2 kickers...

Do the injuries in the secondary make one of them expendable?

MM would be my next choice too but we have no room on the roster right?

as far as I understand it had it been and ACL he would have been out for the year so we could make the move but now that it's not we can't pick up anyone right?

or am I wrong about this?

If I were Loomis, I would send Carney packing and sign McKenzie.

I read another post where someone thought we have no faith in Carney to kick near-50 yard FGs indoors, and I agree. I think you have to have a kicker you can trust to kick 50+ indoors and 45 outdoors.

McKenzie would be a decent fill-in until Porter gets back (hopefully for Carolina so he can work the rust off).

Remains to be seen if they make any moves. Loomis has earned my trust over the past couple of years, so I'm sure they won't bring in anyone if they don't feel that they would be an upgrade over what we have...

lol....unfortunately hes right

i cant see payton risking our secondary by putting arguably our best corner on IR

we just cant afford to lose another starter to IR....especially at a position that we thought we had fixed

McKenzie is D-U-N. Finished. Caput. Arivaderces.

Not sure how else to say it, but the mere mention of him needs to stop, because it is foolish. His knees are blown and no other team has even sniffed him.

Everybody breathe and smile and say hallelujah. One way you can thank the Lord for his miraculous divine providence upon us, is by ceasing to be a smartass too fellow posters. You know who you are. ok. all good now. I aint mad at ya.

Ray, this is amazing news. I thought Porter was done. Porter thought Porter was done when he was riding the cart away. As I said somewhere else this morning, the guy deserves to be part of what ever we celebrate this year, and now it looks like it could happen.

4-6 weeks means, and I'm being optimistic, he could play in our last 3 games
plus the post season plus the Super Bowl. told you I was being optimistic. This wont be easy for him, as the training staff will keep him working out and in shape, but these guys are athletes, and what is he? 23? When you're 23, youre nothing but pee pee & vinegar. Hell, I was made by Rubbermaid. (except for some parts that were made by US Steel)

Get well & get ready, Tracy Porter, we're gonna really need you in a few weeks.
