How has Carney been for you guys?

Although he's just a kicker, he was a fan favorite here in San Diego. He was successful with 50+ yard kicks most of the time.

Has he served you guys well since?

I am OK with Carney. He has had some adventures this year, but nothing major. He is doing very well so far.

I noticed that he missed a field goal on Monday night but that miss didn't really matter at that point. Seems like he's still doing good for an old guy. LOL

Every single one of us watching the game at my house turned our heads, too. I just can't bear to watch him kick anymore, because he makes me that nervous.

He makes me nervous too, ever since he missed that extra point against Jacksonville.

Maybe that's not fair to him, but it seems like he was super-reliable up to that point and ever since he's been a little shaky. Anything over 35 yards or so makes me nervous, just doesn't have the leg anymore.

Having said that, I'll take Carney over the bunch we had while he was gone. Mehlhaff was a total waste of a draft pick. Cundiff's roster spot would've been better used on a 3rd string long snapper. Grammatica cost us at least two games and a probable playoff berth last season.

Hopefully our current young kicker turns out better than that bunch, but I think the Saints will be reluctant to cut Carney just because last time they cut him it totally blew up in their face.

he was great up until this season. he's just plain unbearable to watch this season. hasn't blown anything MAJOR, but he's blown some kicks for sure. i'd rather hartley be kicking.

Re: How has Carney been for you guys?

To be honest, I always get nervous no matter who is kicking. How I look at it is; when they have a field goal, the post seem 15 yards closer and ten yards wider. When we have one, the posts are about 3 yards wide, have Ravens flying above them, smoke fills the air and the opposing special teams all have arms 5 feet long, a blindfold is placed on our kicker and our holder has one arm tied behind his back and there is a 40 mile an hour crosswind. The actual posts are on rollers so they are moving all the time and just before we kick the ball is replaced with a bag of self raising flour... Sorry, I can't remember the point I was trying to make.

Re: How has Carney been for you guys?

He doesn't have SP's confidence, so I don't know why we are not going with Hartley.

The FG percentage isn't great, and doesn't include the 4th downs we went for bc Payton didn't have confidence Carney would make it.
The EP against MIA could have been the difference in the game if we don't get the pick 6 at the end.

Bottom line, we are on the 33 facing a 4th and 10, down by 2 near the end of the game---who do you want kicking? I'll take Hartley

We all know that he will & still is concidered one of the most accurate kicker's of all time. Yes, he is get'n much older & has lost a step or two, but is still a pretty decent kicker right now.
Now, this is how i feel... He has been missing quit a bit more field goal's the last few year's & even worse (PAT's) <~~ That bother's me alot.
I have all the respect in the world for him & alway's will, but i honestly believe he needs to move on with life. He's gotten older & is no longer a spring chicken.
{{Personally}}, i'd like for (Hartley) to be put back in as our #1 man & to start every game from here on out. Hartley is special & extremely blessed with great kicking skill's. Im pretty sure any & everyone would agree with me on that... He is the future of our kicking game & will continue to be for many year's to come!!!

I tip my hat off to (Carney) for everything he's done to help our team win games. Go ahead, retire & spend the rest of your wonderful life with ur family. You have NOTHING more to prove... Thanx for everything you have done for our team & our city...
{{GOD BLESS YOU CARNEY & MAY HE BE WITH YOU NOW & FOREVER}}!!!

He'll probably retire this year. So Payton won't have to stress over what to do next year. The guy's been money up till recently. The only thing I can figure is he must look good in practice.

I cringe every time he kicks a field goal or extra point... definitely a bad thing.

Carney's kicks in the last game weren't things of beauty ... good thing the games aren't that close ..... it could cost us in the future ... he's probably here to mentor the young kid as Morten was mentored when he first came in the league.
