this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Although he's just a kicker, he was a fan favorite here in San Diego. He was successful with 50+ yard kicks most of the time. Has he served you guys well since?...

I am OK with Carney. He has had some adventures this year, but nothing major. He is doing very well so far.

I noticed that he missed a field goal on Monday night but that miss didn't really matter at that point. Seems like he's still doing good for an old guy. LOL

Re: How has Carney been for you guys?
He makes me nervous too, ever since he missed that extra point against Jacksonville.
Maybe that's not fair to him, but it seems like he was super-reliable up to that point and ever since he's been a little shaky. Anything over 35 yards or so makes me nervous, just doesn't have the leg anymore. Having said that, I'll take Carney over the bunch we had while he was gone. Mehlhaff was a total waste of a draft pick. Cundiff's roster spot would've been better used on a 3rd string long snapper. Grammatica cost us at least two games and a probable playoff berth last season. Hopefully our current young kicker turns out better than that bunch, but I think the Saints will be reluctant to cut Carney just because last time they cut him it totally blew up in their face. |

he was great up until this season. he's just plain unbearable to watch this season. hasn't blown anything MAJOR, but he's blown some kicks for sure. i'd rather hartley be kicking.

Re: How has Carney been for you guys?
To be honest, I always get nervous no matter who is kicking. How I look at it is; when they have a field goal, the post seem 15 yards closer and ten yards wider. When we have one, the posts are about 3 yards wide, have Ravens flying above them, smoke fills the air and the opposing special teams all have arms 5 feet long, a blindfold is placed on our kicker and our holder has one arm tied behind his back and there is a 40 mile an hour crosswind. The actual posts are on rollers so they are moving all the time and just before we kick the ball is replaced with a bag of self raising flour... Sorry, I can't remember the point I was trying to make.
