Rams trim Herring in final round of cuts
By Jim Thomas Post-Dispatch updated: 09/01/2003 09:55 PM The sad part for Kim Herring is that if he hadn't gotten hurt against Buffalo, he'd still have a job with the Rams. As it is, Herring is officially in NFL limbo. Herring, the Rams' starting free safety the past two seasons, was designated "terminated-injured" Sunday when the Rams made their final round of roster cuts. The Rams now have a five-day window to negotiate an injury settlement. If not, Herring will be on the active roster until deemed healthy by doctors, and then released. It's possible that Herring could be re-signed at a later date once he's deemed healthy, but not likely. For now, it looks very much like he's played his last game as a Ram. Herring suffered a fractured forearm on the opening kickoff of the Rams' third preseason game - Aug. 23 in Buffalo. He underwent surgery the next day, and is expected to be out until mid-to-late October. ----------------------------------------------------------- Saints should keep an eye on this guy, another player caught in the numbers game that would not have been cut if not for the injury. Upgrade or not? Probably better than Hawthorn. [Edited on 2/9/2003 by FWtex] |
