Same here. I can see that move at the end of the year, maybe, but not right now.

C Mac hasn't looked Pro Bowl, but I thought he had definitely played well enough to keep his spot on the roster for the rest of the year...

No need to keep McAlister as a 4th/5th CB when you can sign a younger player who plays special teams (I guess).

This sounds dead on to me.

I believe we will see a lot of Greer Sunday.

Just putting Dunbar on IR would have been enough to sign McCauley. You sign veterans for the stretch drive to fill the gaps. You don't sign developmental players. I don't understand unless there's a new LB like Brooks in the Saints near future.

I would of rather them cut Carney and kept McAllister around if they were going to bring in another CB even if Greer is coming back

Saints Sign CB Marcus McCauley

New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced Tuesday that the club has signed free agent cornerback Marcus McCauley and waived cornerback Chris McAlister. The club also placed linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar on injured reserve.

McCauley is a third-year player who originally entered the NFL as a third-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings (72nd overall) in 2007. The 6-1, 203-pound Fresno State product has played in 27 career regular-season games – all but one of them with the Vikings – with 10 starts, and has tallied 66 tackles, 10 passes defensed and five tackles on special teams.

The 26-year old Rancho Cordova, Calif. native has also played in one career postseason game, making one tackle on special teams. He was waived by the Vikings at the conclusion of the 2009 preseason and has subsequently had stints with the Detroit Lions and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, playing in one game for Detroit.

McAlister was signed by the Saints as a free agent November 18 and played in two games with the club, making four tackles with a forced fumble that he also recovered. The 11-year veteran defender spent his previous 10 seasons with the Baltimore Ravens.

Dunbar is a second-year player who has played in nine games this season with three starts, making 16 tackles on defense and adding 12 more stops on special teams. He suffered hamstring injury in the Saints’ victory at Washington Sunday that will end his 2009 season.

Remember, though, Loomis and Payton have been lights out on free agent moves lately. I suggest we give them the benefit of the doubt when it comes to this one. Niow, if they had cut Mike McKenzie... that may have been different.

Is is just me or are we thin as hell at LB now? Is Fujita gonna be back on Sunday? Why haven't we cut Carney and signed a SLB yet? Something has to give here.

I don't know if you guys watched the games, but McAllister was REALLLLLYYYYY SLOWWWWWWWWW. I'm not surprised by this at all. I was impressed with MM, not so much with CM.
