Arrow Looking For Tips on Tailgating at the SuperDome

Hey Saints!

I help run GatorTailgating.com and I'm trying to get information to put on our site about tailgating at the Superdome for the Sugar Bowl

We want to have the answers to all of the tailgating questions when it comes to traveling to New Orleans… where the good side of town to stay is, where to eat some good food, where to park on gameday, how much to expect to pay to park, any specific rules about tailgating, open container policies, gameday traditions, etc.
Anyway, any help, tips, etc would be greatly appreciated!
Questions:

1. Where are the good and bad areas of town for motels to stay in the night before/after the big game?

2. What are some lesser known attractions in New Orleans that a visitor shouldn't miss? (i.e. nightclubs, bars, theme parks, tourist attractions, etc.)

3. Where should a visiting fan go to eat before leaving New Orleans? (avoiding chain restaurants, etc)

4. How much should we expect to pay for a parking spot (preferably unblocked so there's enough room to setup tents, tables, and a grill to tailgate)?

5. Are there any special rules we should know about tailgating, open-container policies we should be forewarned about, or anything of the sort?

6. Any Sugar Bowl gameday traditions that you know about and shouldn’t miss?

7. Is there anything else you would advise fans of before heading to New Orleans to tailgate?

Never been to NOLA Gator? Not really a tailgating type of place although I'm sure there are some spots in limited supply that I don't know about. Hopefully someone can point you to those.

Tailgating in New Orleans is replaced by the many fine establishments in the nearby district. You won't be sorry by joining fellow fans at any one of the thousands of bars, restaurants, etc.

This article seems to sum it up pretty good.

As for the other questions I'm sure you will get some great answers from those who really know the City.

Go Gators! (Difficult for an LSU fan to say )

One thing I learned from drinking. You should always go Christmas caroling with a group. Oh, and always in mid-December.

Re: Looking For Tips on Tailgating at the SuperDome

Well, I never went to the Sugarbowl but for Saints games we park off of S. Rampart and Poydras where there are several places to set up tents and RVs. There is also a parking garage across the street for others in your group that don't need to set up additional tents. There is Allegros bar there as well as DJ setup. We pay $30 for parking but I would expect it to be higher for Sugarbowl. Depending on what you like to eat there are several great places, too hard to name them all. Mothers is great place for po-boys and one of my favorites is the chargrilled oysters at Dragos. No real open container law to fret about just don't walk with glass or bottles on the street. Stay south of N. Rampart and west of St. Ann at night and your fine. Nice Hilton off of Baronne and Gravier streets. I'm sure other members will chime in and give more advice. Doesn't matter how touristy it sounds but Pat O's is a must but pretty much just go with the flow anywhere in the quarter. Just be careful with the female impersonators, I know a guy, ahh never mind. You may also want to check out the sugarbowl website. Allstate Sugar Bowl Policies / Allstate Sugar Bowl
Enjoy
