Re: Merry Christmas!!!
Hey all.
Hope you're all enjoying your holidays but if you don't mind... I'll explain why I like the Saints. When I got a good understanding about football, I was 10. Being born and raised in Baltimore, I was too young to see the great days of Johnny Unitas. He was eventually traded to the Chargers and we got a lot of Chargers coverage in Baltimore. I loved the days of Dan Fouts. Since then, they were my team. Eventually, I moved to San Diego in Summer of 99 and became a season ticket holder. As for the Saints... around that time, I was like "why are these guys wearing paper bags over their heads?" Go figure... I had family in New Orleans (that I didn't know at the time). First time I met them, I visited NO. It was some time in the late 80s. They beat the Gnats and for the first time, they made it to the playoffs. I was 18 and will never forget going crazy on Bourbon Street!!! I was smiling with everybody and thinking about how things had changed since the bagged fans days. At 18 I could legally drink (at that time) and was having such a blast. Then came that time I revisited NO and went to a game. That was the season when the Saints started at 8-0. It was a Saints/Falcons game. That's when I understood the rivalry. Unfortunately, the Saints lost but it was such a fun time!!! I was 22 at this time. BOTTOM LINE... Saints had a place in my heart from the very beginning!!! The city has an extremely unique character! The fans are a class act that stuck with their team though more thin than thick! And you guys deserve what you have now!!! There is not a single fan here in San Diego that doesn't tip their hat to Drew Brees (unless he's playing against the Chargers). That's another reason I came here... You guys should be very happy about the respect you are receiving nationwide!! |
