New Orleans Saints tackle Jermon Bushrod ready to put disappointing performance behind him
By Nakia Hogan, The Times-Picayune December 24, 2009, 10:30PM New Orleans Saints left tackle Jermon Bushrod has played well in many of the team's victories this season. Saturday's 24-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys wasn't one of them. At times during the game, Bushrod had lapses in his technique, sometimes failing to move his feet quick enough to get to Ware in time before the Cowboy turned the corner. And sometimes, Bushrod didn't play with the correct leverage to keep Ware from bullying his way into the backfield. But as the workweek gets closer to Sunday's pivotal showdown against NFC South cellar-dwelling Tampa Bay Buccaneers that the Saints can clinch home-field advantage in, Bushrod said he is ready to put his disappointing performance behind him. "I just have to hone in on my technique a little more," Bushrod said. "And when the going gets tough I have to continue to keep fighting and keep believing in our system and we'll be all right. "I have to focus on the task at hand. I can't dwell on that too much anymore. I just have to focus on Tampa Bay because I can't go back and change the past. That's just one thing I can do." Bushrod still had plenty of praise for Ware, who had two sacks and two caused fumbles on Saturday, including the game-winning sack on Saints quarterback Drew Brees with six seconds remaining in the game. He even voted for the Cowboy on his Pro Bowl ballot. "He's just an all-around great athlete; that's why he's one of the top (pass rushers) in the league because of his production in the years he's been in the league," Bushrod said of Ware. "He's a tough competitor. Everyone knows that in this league. Sometimes you come up a little short." It was a coaching lapse, poor coaching adjustment not getting him some help with Ware. It ain't all Bushrod, and I hope the coaches are paying attention.
