Re: My analysis of Beanie Wells

If I remember correctly the knock on Beanie Wells coming out of college was that he had durability issues or something like that. Anyway, I think Payton wanted this guy and that carries a lot of weight with me. On the positive side Payton should understand his tendencies and can share that with GW. With our linebackers back and healthy we should be hammering him every time he touches the ball. Also, I hope that Harper has a great game and drops the hammer on the ball carrier.

Re: My analysis of Beanie Wells

Beanie has played well this year... the only thing that's plagued him this year is his inability to hold on to the football. You can't take those 20 yard runs away from him. Those 3 and 4 yard grinders eventually set up his long runs. Back in the day when Deuce was here, his constant pounding allowed him to break those long runs down the field. Also having a less than 4 YPC average does not make you a below average running back.

Jerome Bettis averaged 3.9 YPC for his career. I don't know if you have watched Jamal Charles play this year, but if you take away all those long runs he had, I guess that makes him a below average running back also... which is ridiculous. You can't fault him for consistently breaking long runs.

yea dont count the game against the 2nd rated defense in the league...that wouldnt make sense

My point is that he doesn't have great numbers. If a guy is cracking off a 20-30-40 yard run each game, it should translate into a higher total yard per game than what Beanie's getting. Meaning the rest of his runs aren't cutting it.
and here is the difference.....PT is our starter...wells is the 2nd string guy....at least for the majority of the season he was

just like bell, he was their short yardage guy in certain situations....despite hightower being the bigger back and the better receiver, wells still got his short yardage touches and ended up turning them into big gains......you dont see that out of bell a whole lot

his short yardage is due in large part to their offensive scheme and line......they dont have the best run blocking line....and they like to pass a lot more than run.....just like we did that past several games......and look how our rushing production dropped

the bad thing is that we dont commit to the run like the cardinals did.....when wells ran for only 2 or 3 yards, they still fed him the ball....when PT ran for only 2 or 3 yards we went back to passing

sorry but i once read a post that coincides greatly with this issue at hand

keep your college football discussion out of my saints conversation

what that topic is doing is turning fellow saints fans against each other because of where they live and the other affiliations they have......im more than willing to talk about college football.....but not here

i could go on for days about the rebirth of the big 10 and the flaws of the spread offense but because of the separation it creates among fellow saints fans, i choose not to

responding with a post that simply says, "spoken like a true ohio state fan," implies that what i said had no basis because of my obvious bias towards that player.....the same reason why many people didnt want to draft him is not the same reason why i like him.....

it has very little to do with the big 10

Man you woulda thought I dissed an LSU player on SR.com or something. :D

Seriously, I don't think the guy sucks...just that our running game > their running game contrary to what the Cards fans love to tout.

PS - I like the Big 10, I'm a Penn State fan.;)
