Never Say Die (A ramble)
I've been a Saints fan for a long time ( I was there when John Gilliam ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown.) and I can't count the number of times I swore I'd never them fool me into thinking they were a real professional team again. In 1986 I moved to California and the S.O.B's immediatley went on a winning streak for the first time 21 years!! The curse was broken!! Or so I thought. then they played the Vikings in the super dome for thier first play off game ever. I remember practically crying when I saw the party going on in the stands before game because I wanted to be there so bad. The last play of the second half (remember that?) brought me back to Earth. My friends out here thought that was the funniest thing they had ever seen. Again I swore I'd never get fooled again. But they were too good in those years to give up on. After all those years of watching some of the worst football teams ever to set foot on a gridiorn (remember the Hank Stamm era?) it was like a miracle to see a true powerhouse in the Fleur d'Lis.
Then came Ditka. Oh well. Living on the west coast I don't get to see the games as often as i'd like. For some strange reason they still show the Rams and Raiders every week. Of course it's alot harder to follw the team from here which is why I've been lurking around here since I found you guys. After reading the posts on Monday I had to register so that I could chip in my opinion about A.B. When I first saw A.B. my impression was that he was something special. Great arm accuracy, good mobility and real fire to win seemed to set him apart from all the wanna be's. Now I'm not so sure. In the 2001 crash and burn I thought the team had let him down then came the 2002 crash and burn and I started to wonder. I hope I'm wrong but I'm beginning to think maybe he's not that smart. But he's not a bad q.b. he's just not great either. Don't blame him all the teams woes. If you want to blame someone take a look at defensive backfield or the so called linebackers. But hey they are a WINNING team that missed the playoffs by one game last year! Remember that this is the SAINTS! The people who brought you J.D. Roberts, Les Kelly, John Mecom the same franchise that traded Archie Manning for a washed up OT. Don't give up now. GO Saints ps Is Buddy Deliberto still around? |
