They are a different kind of Defense. They are smaller and faster than Minnesota. Anyone who thinks they are going to be easier to run on check out the stats from the AFC championship game. They shut the leading rushing team in the playoffs down. Freeney and Mathis are everybit the speed and power threat that Allen and Edwards were. The biggest difference is in the middle. I dont see this being any easier than what we just went through. It should be a great game.

Runing against us won't happen, but as you saw in the game vs. the Jets and other teams, you can throw against us. The key will be how much presure we can get on breeze and causing him to hurry his throw.

The Jets passed on us because that's what we allowed them to do. We took away the one dimension of their offense that they were comfortable with. I'm guessing it will be a completely different defensive gameplan for the Saints and it's doubtful that we are going to stack the box and have the safeties cheat against the Saints. My guess is that we'll dare the Saints to run on us and make them drive the field slowly. If you're a good running team, it's not hard to get 5-10 yard runs against us but it's hard to drive the entire field that way because one negative play or one penalty and you're in a passing situation. The Saints, unlike the Ravens or Jets, will be more than comfortable in those passing situations. We will need Freeney and Mathis to hurry, or sack, Brees and not let him get comfortable and in a rhythm.

This is a totally different beast. We're not trying to shut down a one-dimensional offense anymore and we're not at home.

Yup. I think you have it nailed there. The Saints have a top five ranked running game and really depend upon the run to set up the pass. But, as you pointed out, the Saints have far better weapons in the pass game than does the Jets so you can't simply stack the box. It is going to be an interesting match up and will be a toss up as far as I am concerned.

Brees is very much a rhythm passer. When he is on, he is on fire. When he is not, he overthrows like he did last night. The Colts will need to throw the Saints off their timing routes and bring enough heat from the outside to force Drew up into the pocket.

Covering Wayne, Garcon, Collie, and Clark won't be easy. Manning is going to short pass them down the field waiting for the right opportunity to strike. It is all going to come down to time of possession and if Manning can keep our defense on the field.

Yea I remember this from his days at Purdue. When he's on, it really doesn't matter what the defense throws at him but it seems there were sometimes a quarter or so in any given game where he couldn't get into rhythm and drives would stall. That can be said for any quarterback to some extent but when a great one like Brees loses his rhythm it always catches me off guard and I notice it more.

Our o-line is unbelievable. Brees ought to take them on several nice trips in the offseason.
