That was for you Pops!
I'm a Saints fan because my Grandfather raised me that way. He attended the first Saints game in Tulane stadium. He and I used to watch games every Sunday together, and whenever I would yell at the TV because I was young and thought the refs could hear me, he would just shake his head and smile.
Of all the lessons my grandfather taught me, the most important was this. In life you either do something or you don't do it. There is no try. It's a lesson I take with me to this day. My grandfather died last year in August. I thought of him when Garrett Hartley made that field goal last night and I dropped to my knees in tears. Thank you for helping steer that kick staight Pops. I wish we could have shared the moment together, but I know you were watching me and smiling. |

Re: That was for you Pops!
Great read man. I'm sure he and many other passed fans made sure the game went as it did.
My father raised me as a Saints fan. We live in separate states now and don't see each other much. He said if we went to the SB he'd make the trip here and catch it with me. When I saw that ball leave Hartley's foot I knew, I just knew. We were on the phone together for the kick and all I could say was see you in 2 weeks dad. |

That's great man. I got online and booked my hotel in the French Quarter as soon as that kick went through the uprights. Lots of friends from all over the country meeting me in NOLA for the Superbowl. I can't wait for the party!

Re: That was for you Pops!
Last time the Vikings played the Saints was the night before my brother's memorial service. It was anything I could do get a little break from everything going on and Reggie Bush dazzled. Then the next morning I was in my brother's apartment getting memoirs and at the funeral home for his memorial.
I'm glad the Saints won this time last night and I'm glad I'm at work today. It seems like every hardship I've faced made me love and hang onto the Saints a little tigher. Rest in peace bro. I will be getting that Saints tattoo, just like you got that Falcons tattoo. |
