Communities rallying around Saints players from Louisiana
By RANDY ROSETTA
Advocate sportswriter

Seven days from now, most of Louisiana will direct its focus on Super Bowl XLIV when the New Orleans Saints make their long-awaited debut on the NFL’s biggest stage.

For three nearby communities, the pride in their collective chests will swell a little stronger.

Tracy Porter from Port Allen, Randall “Blue” Gay from Brusly and Devery Henderson from Opelousas all figure to play key roles for the Saints against the Indianapolis Colts when the teams square off at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

Porter is the starting right cornerback, Gay is a backup at both corners and is on the field extensively in nickel and dime packages and Henderson has turned in the most productive season of his career with 51 catches for 804 yards and two touchdowns during the regular season, with eight grabs for 119 yards and two more scores in the playoffs.

To the diehard Saints fans, those might be the facts that take precedent.

To the folks of Port Allen, Brusly and Opelousas, the simple notion of their hometown sons donning the black and gold in the Super Bowl is all the reason for pride needed.

“We’re awfully excited about Blue representing us in the Super Bowl for the Saints,” Brusly Mayor Joey Normand said about Gay. “He’s been there before with New England, but this is the best of both worlds.
