Reflect on the emotions of being a Saints fan. 1967-1977...never won more than 5 games in a season 1978- UP-Archie Manning goes to Probowl .........DOWN----Losing to the the Falacons 20-17 twice in the final moments of the game. No playoffs 1979-UP-Manning,Muncie,Childs,Chandler and Meyers to the Probowl. DOWN-Monday night vs. the Raiders leading 28-14 at half time with a shot at the playoffs. the Saints lost 42-35 --no playoffs 8-8 1981-UP-George Rodgers Rickey Jackson,drafted. BumPhillips era 1983-DOWN-Mike Lansford's 42 yd FG ends Saints playoff hopes on last day of season. 7-9 no playoffs. 1986-UP-Mora era begins. 6-0 win vs. Rams is an indicator of what is to come from this defense in the future. 1987-UP-First winning season 12-3 wildcard playoff berth. win nine in a row to end the season DOWN-Lose home playoff game to Vikings 44-10 1988-UP-Started season 7-1, Finished 10-6 DOWN-lost last 5 of 8 , no playoffs lost tiebreaker to 49ers and Rams. 1989-UP-After a 1-4 start win last three games of season to rally to 9-7. Superdome reopens on week three as Saints crush Falcons 23-3. 2007-DOWN-Saints start 0-4, win next 4 but end 7-9 no playoffs. 2009-UP! Saints in the Superbowl! HELL HAS FROZEN OVER. |

I was in New Orleans at both those times. I attended the game against the Gnats when they clinched a playoff spot for the first time. Bourbon Street went crazy to the early till about 4 am and fans were celebrating all week long! in 91, I went to the Falcons game and really saw what that Saints/Pigeons rivalry is all about. Unfortunately, the Saints lost that game in overtime but it was a fun vacation. GO GET THAT TITLE!!! |
