The Origin Of The Fleur De Lis
I thought that this might be a good time to revisit the origin of the Fleur De Lis.
The symbol of elegance, refinement and opulence, the iris has been cherished by kings, queens and gardeners since the beginning of history. During the Crusades, Louis VII of France chose the iris as his personal symbol, known as the fleur de Louis(the flower of Louis), which later became fleur de lis. Ever since, the stylized iris has been the symbol of French royalty. It is glistened on the robes of the Sun King, Louis XIV. It is etched, carved and gilded into every corner of Versailles, the pleasure chateau of French kings. With our French origins this makes perfect sense for the New Orleans Saints to bear the symbol of the French royalty. |

Versailles is amazing and littered with FDLs. You can't go to Europe without scheduling some time there.

I read that too! That is freaking hilarious. I was in the Scouts, long, long, time ago, and I remember the symbol, but wow, they didn't create it. There was even some guy saying that the Scouts own the rights to it! Comedy.
