Hawthorne (Packer) slams Saints

Hawthorne said he was glad to be out of New Orleans a year sooner than expected -- he would have been a free agent after the season.

``New Orleans seems as though it's a farm league team,'' he said. ``A lot of great athletes there, but nobody ever blossoms there in New Orleans.''

He listed the great players who have left in recent years and enjoyed success elsewhere: William Roaf, La'Roi Glover, Rickey Williams, Marc Bulger and Jake Delhomme to name a few.

``You say, '(Darn), we had all this in one spot,''' Hawthorne said.

Hawthorne also said he never should have been placed on injured reserve last year with a knee injury because he was back in no time.

So, will he be the next reject to make the Saints regret letting him go?

``New Orleans helped me out, put it like that,'' he said.

Despite all his criticism of New Orleans, he insisted he wasn't bitter.

``No ill will because if some things hadn't happened, I wouldn't be here talking to you right now. I'd still be down there going through that mumbo jumbo stuff,'' Hawthorne said.

He also added he could be the packers answer to there wide reciver problems, pointing out he played WR on the Saints scout team and the coaches compaired him to Randy Moss. I think they must of been talking about his attitude not his ability though. Good riddence!

Haslet gave this punk every opportunity under the dome to make it. Fans and coaches kept waiting and waiting for him to blossom. He never did.
He couldn\'t beat out Fahkir Brown, Ken Irvin, or Jay Bellamy.
And this is how he reacts to finally getting released?

WELL SAID AGENT 5221.... GOOD RIDDANCE!

Hawthorne never did ANYTHING to compare himself to the guys he listed. I\'d compare him to another overrated saints DB that went elsewhere....Jimmy Spencer. Every season I was just waiting for Hawthorne to take over at one of the corner spots but he just kept getting burned. We\'re no worse off without him than we were with him!

The big difference between Hawthorne and Spencer is that Spencer has acknowledged he isn\'t physically gifted enough to be as good as he thought. He has become a very valuabel player to have though as he is now the asst. defensive backs coach and the only player/coach in the NFL.

If by comparing him to Randy Moss they meant: Geez Hawthorne you have have a monster ego and self destructive tendancies then I agree.

But if he does want to play wideout, I can\'t think of anyone I\'d rather see Brett Favre throw a footabll at in 10 weather. Something like shooting a frozen cannonball at a guy when his fingers are already tender from the cold. Ouch. I wouldn\'t want to try and catch what Favre throws with a catcher\'s mitt.
